In the early days, children went to school without phones, and they did quite well. Now, as the cellphone is becoming an important part of life, a discussion on whether or not a student should take a cellphone to school becomes necessary. However , the decision must be made after an analysis( 分析) of the advantages( 优点) and disadvantages(缺点) of cellphones in school.

With a phone, parents can be in contact (联系) with their children. A cellphone makes the child easily reachable (可到达的). It stops harmful things happening. Also, the children feel safe knowing that they can contact their parents. Parents also feel relaxed.

However, a cellphone can prove (证明) to be distracting (分心的) and take the child's interest and attention away from the activities in school. Using a cellphone in between classes can have a bad effect on progress of students. They would be more interested in sending a text message than reading a story or solving a maths problem. Some students may also use their cellphone for the wrong reasons, such as playing games.

A school is the best place for the general development of children. School not only teaches children things, but also takes care of their physical and mental development. So these advantages of cellphone use in school must be studied carefully before giving a conclusion.

Kathy could still remember the night she had to leave her home in Hungary. It was the beginning of World War(战争)II and her family had to leave their country as soon as possible. She quickly filled(充满)a bag with a few pieces of clothing, her diary, and her treasure(珍宝)—a beautiful silk scarf.

Kathy and her best friend, Monica, had asked their parents to buy them matching scarves. They each would wear the scarves as a symbol(象征)of their friendship. Kathy had no idea that she was going to America that night and would not be returning.

Kathy kept that special silk scarf for many years. One day she decided to give it to her granddaughter, Eliza, to wear to her first job interview(面试)for good luck. And with the scarf, Eliza kissed her grandmother and left for the interview.

That afternoon Eliza left the interview, feeling sure that she had got the job. So she decided to celebrate by going to a restaurant. As she was sitting at her table, she felt someone looking at her. Sitting next to her was an old woman, who could not take her eyes away from her.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" Eliza asked.

"I`m sorry, dear, but you make me think of someone I once knew," the old woman replied. "My best friend looked like you and used to wear a scarf just like the one you're wearing around your neck. Eliza listened carefullywith her eyes and mouth wide open. She had heard stories of her grandmother's best friend and knew the meaning of the scarf.

"My name's Monica, dear. I lived in Hungary as a child, but my family had to leave when I was fourteen years old. I've been living here in California from then on." said the old woman.

Eliza could not believe her ears…

 阅读下列短文,从下面每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Do you ever feel like there's not enough time in the day? That time is somehow racing away from you, and it is impossible to fit everything in. But then. you step outside into the countryside and suddenly everything seems slower, more relaxed, like time has somehow changed. It's not just you-recent research showed nature can control our sense of time.

Richardo Correia, the researcher at the University of Finland, found that being in nature may change how we experience time and perhaps, even give us the sense of time abundance(充裕). Correia compared people's experiences of time when they performed different types of tasks in cities and natural environments. It showed that people reported a sense of expanded time when they were in nature compared to when they were in cities. For example, a walk through the countryside felt longer than a city walk of the same distance.

It's not just our sense of time in the moment which appears to be changed by the natural world, and it's alsoour sense of the past and future. Earlier research shows that spending time in nature helps to move our focus from44the immediate(目前的) moment towards our future needs. So rather than focusing on the stress of the demands(需求)on our time, nature helps us to see the bigger picture. This can help us focus on what's important so that we meet our long-term goals. This is partly because spending time in nature appears to make us less impulsive(冲动的),enabling us to think more about future benefits instead of wanting immediate ones.
