A good teacher is many things to many people. In my own experience, the people I respect most are the teachers{#blank#}1{#/blank#}demanded the most discipline from their students.

    I miss one teacher in particular that I had in high school. I think she was a good teacher because she was a very strict person. I remember very {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (clear) a sign over her classroom door. It was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} simple sign that said, “Laboratory—in this room the first five letters of the word was emphasized, not the last seven. ” In other words, I guess, labor for her was more{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (importance), which means{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (make) speeches.

    She prepared her work very carefully and demanded us to do the same. We got lots of homework from her. Once she had broken {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (she) arm, and everybody in the class thought that maybe the homework {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (reduce), but it continued just the same. She checked our work by stamping her name at the bottom of the papers to show that she had read {#blank#}8{#/blank#}

    I think sometimes teachers who demand most are{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（like）least. But {#blank#}10{#/blank#}time goes by, this discipline really seems to benefit the students.

    There was a farm in a small country. The farmer's daughter had to carry fresh milk to customers in various villages, one of{#blank#}1{#/blank#}was a priest(牧师). {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（reach）his house, the milkmaid had to cross a stream. People crossed it by raft(竹筏).

    One day the priest, finding it arrived very late, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(scold) the poor girl. “What can I do?” she said. “I started out early from my house, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}I had to wait a long time for the boatman to come.”

     “I crossed the river repeating the name of God, just as you had told me to do, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}waiting for the raft,” she replied. The priest didn't believe her, so they went together to the water and the milkmaid began to walk over{#blank#}9{#/blank#}. Looking back, the milkmaid saw the priest floundering(踉跄) in the water.

     “Sir!”she cried. “You are uttering the name of God, but all{#blank#}10{#/blank#}while you are holding up your clothes from getting wet. That is not trusting in God.”

    A humanoid named Sophia has made history {#blank#}1{#/blank#}becoming the first robot in the world with citizenship. Journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin made the announcement at the end of an interview with Sophia.

    “We just learned, Sophia, I hope you're listening to me, that you have been now awarded {#blank#}2{#/blank#} is going to be the first Saudi citizenship for a Robot,” he said to applause from the audience.

    Sophia responded, without missing a beat: “I want to thank very much the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

    “I am very proud and honored {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(award) citizenship and I simply appreciate {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (recognize) with citizenship as a robot, which is historical .” the robot said.

The pair discussed the future of artificial intelligence, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Sophia said it wants to use to “help humans live a better life.”

    Sorkin expressed concerns {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(previous) raised by Elon Musk that artificial intelligence could be dangerous if it {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (go) evil and turned on humanity. But Sophia insisted it wanted to use artificial intelligence only to "help humans live a better life."

    Sophia tried to remove Sorkins' fears of {#blank#}8{#/blank#}"bad future," insisting that AI is "designed around human values like {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(wise), kindness, compassion."

    It accused him of "reading too much Elon Musk," and said, "don't worry, if you're nice to me, I{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) nice to you. Treat me as a smart input-output system."

    Now, I'd like to tell you about the development of computers. Computers began {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a calculating machine in France in 1642, it could {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (simple) difficult sums. In 1936, Alan Turing wrote a book about how a computer could be made to work as a "universal Machine" {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (solve) any difficult mathematical problem. By the 1940s, computers had grown as large as a room. As time went by, they were made {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (small). Since the 1970s computers {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (use) in offices and homes, first as personal computers and then as laptops.

    As computers' memory improved, computers became much smaller and more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (intelligence). First the memory was stored in tubes, then on transistors and later on very small chips. Over time computer's memory {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (develop) so much that computers remember everything they have been told. In the early 1960s computers could be connected to each other by the network {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (call) the World Wide Web.

    Many new {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (apply) have been found for computers since the1970s. They have been used in communication, finance, trade, robots, mobile phones, space rockets and so the goal of computers is to provide humans {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a life of high quality.

    If you have ever taken a handwritten prescription from a doctor or looked at the notes from your visit, it seems like no amount of squinting(眯眼) could help the letters get clearer. Bad handwriting almost seems like a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(require) for graduating from medical school. But it's not the fact{#blank#}2{#/blank#}only people with bad handwriting{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(attract) to the medical field. If so, why does it happen to doctors?

“In the medical field, if it's not documented, it{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(actual) didn't happen," says Celine Thum, MD, medical director at ParaDoes Worldwide. Anything you talk about behind closed doors needs written evidence for your medical history. Doctors have to write more than any other employee, for {#blank#}5{#/blank#}they can hardly write letters clearly.

    Long days plus tons of writing leads{#blank#}6{#/blank#}a very tired hand. If doctors could spend an hour{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(deal) with every patient, they might be able to slow down and give their{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(hand)a rest. But the truth is that most physicians are rushing around to the next patient. With so many patients to see in a{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(limit) time, doctors are{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(concerned) about getting the information down than perfecting their handwriting.

    The world's longest sea bridge, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, links Hong Kong and Macau to mainland China. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} took over a decade to construct. A few artificial islands were built in the Pearl River Delta {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (provide) the supports for the bridge. The bridge will be open to people to drive across it. However, car {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (own) will not be able to drive across the bridge unless they have a special permit.
