ChatGPT is back in the headlines! OpenAI, the company behind the popular chatbot, has now introduced a powerful new language: GPT-4. 

Several months ago, GPT-4 showed the world how smarter it is than the previous (先前的) GPT-3.5. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}For example, if you show a picture of a phone using the wrong charger, GPT-4 can tell why the picture looks strange or funny. 

But GPT-4's developments are far more than that. The new language model can code (用代码编写) classic games in only a few minutes, and it also can produce the code and layouts (布局) for a website with a hand-made drawing. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} According to some scientists, GPT-4 did really well on a school test, with a score in the top 10 percent of test takers. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

GPT-4 will also be widely used in other apps and services. For example, the language learning app Duolingo plans to use GPT-4 in their Duolingo Max Function. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Another app, Be My Eyes, will have a digital assistant to help blind people understand the world around them. 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}GPT4 still can't get completely correct answers sometimes, especially with newer information after September 2021. GPT-4 also sometimes "hallucinates (产生幻觉)", it means that GPT-4 will think the wrong information is true.

①AI（artificial intelligence 人工智能） and machine learning refer to the ability of machines to learn and act intelligently.It means they can make decisions，finish tasks，and even tell the possible future results based on what they learn from data （数据）.

②AI and machine learning already play a bigger role in everyday life than you might imagine.Health care，banking，video games，every search on the Internet you make...，all are driven by AI.

③AI is going to change almost every field of modern life.Stephen Hawking said，"Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history."And Hawking added at once，"Unluckily，it might also be the last，unless we learn how to avoid the risks."

④ ▲  ， especially when you consider some countries are racing to develop AI—enabled autonomous weapons（人工智能自主武器）.It is also going to change and take the place of many human jobs.The same worries also come from the public.According to the survey result from Centre for the Governance of AI，91%of the people （tend to and totally） agree that "AI is a technology that requires careful management" in Europe.

⑤But rather than agreeing with an idea of a helpless future where all human jobs are given over to robots.some people believe AI will make on working lives better.It will improve the work of humans，and new jobs will appear to take the place of the old ones.

⑥What's more，machines become more intelligent and they are able to finish more human tasks.Things which only belong to humans like creativity and critical （批判性的） thinking，will become even more valuable in the future.

⑦Like it or not，AI is here.Maybe changing ourselves and managing it well are the best way out .Just as Benjamin Franklin once said，"When you're finished changing，you're finished."

AI is now an everyday technology, as common as e-mail or online video. AI is changing how we live. Here are some excellent AI tools in "Time's Best Inventions of AI". 

It has been more than 40 years since anyone has found a Japanese river otter. It is just one of the animals that have been listed as extinct(灭绝) or locally extinct in recent years. But the development of technology could mean that the extinction of other animals is not likely to take place.

A huge challenge scientists face is watching endangered animals in order to help them. This is where artificial intelligence (Al) has brought a turning point in the way information on these animals is collected and studied. The Maui dolphin is one of the most valuable and endangered dolphins in the ocean. With a collection of their summer behavior facts, researchers knew that there were just 54 of these mysterious animals living off the coast of New Zealand. However, because of weather conditions, researchers know almost nothing about their winter behavior. After four years of developing and testing, these scientists were able to use a drone(无人机) with AI to watch the dolphins no matter the season. The result was more wild areas provided for them to live.

In Zambia's Kafue National Park, home to more than 6,000 elephants, AI is being used to enhance traditional methods of preventing hunting. Cameras record any boats that try to enter the park. AI immediately notices this activity and warns park guards, who deal with the hunters.

In Brazil, AI quickly studied over 150,000 satellite pictures, discovering that the world's largest wetland has lost 74 percent of its surface water, Not until that discoveries did governments realize how serious the situation was. The use of AI has helped to speed action and increase our ability to protect the natural world for the future to come.

Artificial intelligence(AI) can now do amazing things. ChatGPT is an AI that can answer questions, tell stories, and do much more. But it's very" thirsty", said a new study.

When ChatGPT works, its" home"- data(数据) centers around the world- gets very hot. Workers then have to use water to cool them down. Cold water goes into pipes(管道) near the computers at these centers. Because the computers are very hot, the water turns into vapor(水蒸气) and goes into the air. The water needs to be super clean. If they use sea water, it can eat away the pipes.

If you ask ChatGPT 20 to 50 questions, it needs to" drink"a 500- milliliter bottle of water. When people trained ChatGPT, it used 700,000 liters of water, said the study. This is the amount that is needed to make about 370 cars.

ChatGPT is not the only one that needs data centers. Everything you do on the internet needs data centers to work. There are more than 8,000 data centers in the world, said a report in 2021. The number is still growing. If AI keeps using a lot of water, we may have to" fight" with AI for water.
