When we are talking about animals in China, the most precious (珍贵的) animal we would think of is the panda. In fact, we have one kind of bird as precious as the panda,1many people don't know much about it. The bird is called crested ibis (朱鹮) . It is as2as snow with a red face and looks very beautiful. It is also in danger like the panda.

Crested ibises3in tall trees by small rivers or rice fields. They look for small fish and4small animals for food. About one hundred years ago,5crested ibises lived in China, Russia and Japan. Later, as they lost their homes,6them was getting smaller and smaller. Between 1965 and 1980, people didn't see any of them living in the wild. Luckily, on May 23, 1981, scientists7seven of them in the south of Shanxi Province. 8protect crested ibises in the wild, the Chinese government is setting up nature parks and developing other plans. Now scientists are doing a lot of research to help them to9more babies. Today there are about 1,500 crested ibises living in the wild. Zoos and research centres10after about 500 crested ibises.

Once upon a time, there lived a wise man. Everyone loved him. His son, however, was very lazy and did nothing all day.

The wise man was worried about his son's future. One day, he said to his son, "I want you to go to find some treasure（财宝）. I have drawn a map to guide you." Then he handed his son a bag. Inside the bag were clothes, some food, a little money and the map.

The son set. Out on his. Long journey the next day. He had to travel across forests, rivers and mountains. Along the way, he met a-lot of people. Some helped him with food, and some with a place to live. He also met robbers（强盗） who tried to rob him but failed. He saw changing landscapes（风景） and experienced different kinds of weather.

Finally, after a long year, he reached the place of treasure. He spent two days looking and digging for the treasure, but found nothing.

Feeling sad, he headed back to his home. On his way back, he experienced the same changing landscapes and seasons. Sometimes, he would stop to enjoy the beauty of nature. He also learned to hunt and make meals. He had to fix（修补） his own clothes and the tent himself. He was now able to tell time by the sun and protect（保护） himself from wild animals. He met the same people who had helped him earlier. This time, he stayed and helped them in order to repay them.

When he reached home, he said sorry to his father for not finding the treasure.

"There wasn't any treasure in the very first place, my son," the father answered with a smile. "But I think you have found your life's true meaning."

I am very busy on Friday. At 8:00 I have math. It is not fun. The teacher says it is useful, but I think it is difficult. Then at 9:00 I have science. It is difficult but interesting. At 10:00 I have history. After that, I have P. E. at 11:00. It is easy and fun. Lunch is from 12:00 to 1:00, and after that we have Chinese. It is my favorite subject. Our Chinese teacher, Mrs. Wang, is great fun. My classes finish at 1:50, but after that I have an art lesson for two hours. It is really relaxing!

As we know, many people want to learn Chinese well. A big family from the US is among (在……中间) them.

Lucy Brown lives in New York with her family. She is fifty-nine years old and has four daughters. They are from 13 to 20 years old.

Lucy loves Chinese history very much and she asks all of her daughters to learn Chinese. "Chinese is not easy to learn, so I ask all my daughters to learn it at an early age (在小时候). China is great and I think learning Chinese can help them to know about China well," says Lucy. Every day, Lucy and her daughters listen to Chinese music and read Chinese books. She also asks them to go to bilingual (双语的) schools, so they can learn Chinese. Lucy is proud of her daughters because they can do well in Chinese now. And they all like making friends with people from China.

Lucy's daughters think Lucy is a "tiger mom", because she asks them to learn Chinese for many hours every day. But Lucy says, "I'm sure some day they will thank me for this."

In China, we often give presents during the Spring Festival. When you accept a present, you {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(not use) one hand. You must accept it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} both hands. You {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (not open) a gift right after you receive it and you should say "Thank you".{#blank#}4{#/blank#} now things have changed among young people. They {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(not wait). What's more, they {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (open) it as soon as they get it. 

You {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(not say) anything bad on the first day of the Spring Festival. And you {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(not fight). It may bring bad luck to you. You can hang red lanterns (挂红灯笼){#blank#}9{#/blank#} red means good luck. What's more, you'd better {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(not use) scissors (剪刀) during the Spring Festival month. These are things you should pay much attention to in China.

"Are you listening, Simon? " Simon's teacher asked. It was a pretty usual question. Simon shook his head, smiling. He hardly listened or tried hard in class. Talking was so much fun. He wanted to be heard rather than listen.

"Listen, and you' ll learn something." Mrs. Jacobs tried every day, but Simon never paid attention.

 That evening, his throat really hurt. The next morning, when he opened his mouth to say"Good morning", nothing came out but a croak(低沉而沙哑的声音).

 Simon's mother looked at him. "Honey, you' ve lost your voice "

"Can I stay home?" He tried to ask, but words didn't come out. Instead, his mother checked him for a fever and decided it was good for him to go to school, even if he couldn't talk.

 When he got to school, Mrs. Jacobs said"Hello" to him, and he just nodded. When his friends asked him what TV shows he watched last night, he just shrugged(耸肩). By the time the bell rang for class, almost everyone was looking at him as if he'd grown a third eye.

 Penny raised her hand. "Mrs Jacobs, why isn't Simon talking?"

"He never stops talking," Richard said worriedly. Everyone started talking at once. They were excited, worried, and surprised.

 Simon sat in class, bored. He watched them talk to each other as if the teacher wasn't there, but he couldn't even do that. In math class he could hold up fingers if the answer was less than 10, but that wasn't fun. He decided to try to pay attention.

 He could do his homework that night. It gave him TV and game time with his work all done.

 The next day, even though his voice was coming back, he stayed quiet again. The third day, he could talk fine, but he listened and raised his hand to speak.

 What a difference that one day made!
