阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

When you are on a long road trip or in a traffic jam during a daily-commute , it may seem harmless to connect your phone to your car's USB port. But unless you really need to use your phone, charging(充电)your iphone during your commute could be a big mistake.

Why? For starters, the USB port in our car probably provides less electricity than your phone really needs to charge. As a result, your phone might stop working while it charges.

Many people may notice that on their way home from work their phone charged very little during their 30-60 minute commute,"says Brad Nichols,an engineer at Staymobile."It is mostly because that the phone is using more power than the car charger isproviding it."

Nichols also says that your phone could receive too much power, especially if you are using a cigarette lighter port to charge up.Most cigarette lighters can provide more power than most chargers can afford. If a charger cannot keep providing the proper power, it may make the phone broken.

Charging your phone could do harm to your car's battery(电池),too. This usually isn't a big deal for those who own new cars with healthy batteries,Nichols says. But if your car is older, you might not want to charge your phone through its USB port.

Most importantly,it's not safe to use your phone while driving."Anytime a person's hands leave the wheel or eyes leave the road,it becomes dangerous for them and the other people around them," Nichols points out.Bottom line:Play it safe, and wait until you get home to charge your phone.

There is a popular belief that goldfish only have a three-second memory. But a 15-year-old schoolboy from Adelaide has just finished an experiment to tell us that it is not true. He shows everybody that the goldfish is smarter than we think.

"I don't believe that they had a three-second memory because animals need their memory, so they build up over time a knowledge of where the food is," said Rory Stokes, a student at the Australian Science and Mathematics School.

He did the experiment in a small tank(鱼缸)of goldfish. "I decided to get a bit of red Logo and just feed them next to that. Every day I'd put it in and spread food around it." He said.

"At first they were a bit scared of it, but by the end of the three weeks, they were actually almost coming before I put the food in."

After leaving the fish alone for a week, Rory placed the red Logo block in the tank again.

"They remembered perfectly well," he said.

"They actually had a time faster than the average(平均)of the three feeds before I left."

The goldfish showed that they not only could store information, but also had the ability to get it back at a later date.

Culum Brown, a researcher at Sydney′s Macquarie University, has studied fish behavior for more than ten years.

He says his studies of Australian native fish show fish are smart animals that know how to avoid enemies and catch food like any other animal.

"The thing that I really liked about Rory′s experiment is that he not only got that classical conditioning going but the fact that he could get thorn next just to that specific coloured marker. I thought it was really good." He said.

Frustration (挫折感) is a feeling that is common to nearly everyone: so much to do, so little time. Another year gone by with nothing done, you find all last year's resolutions haven't been realized. Neither did you run that marathon (马拉松) , nor did you learn the guitar. But never mind, things will be different in a new year. This time you will try to finish them through the wind and rain, right? Sadly in Mid-February, 80% of you will have already given up your plans.

I have always considered the word perseverance (毅力) means such serious suffering (痛苦) and loneliness. Luckily, there is a simple way to achieve success by changing your daily habits.

In his book, Atomic Habits, author James Clear tells the way of keeping perseverance. He suggests that, if you truly wish to make big changes to your life, the best way is not by making big New Year's resolutions, but by making small changes to your daily habits.

Getting a small change day by day can help you achieve your big goal. In short, you are your habits and if you have some respectable habits, you will achieve great things. Start slowly and don't worry about others'opinions. You are in competition with yourself. So if at first you don't succeed, fail and fail again, make some changes and you'll succeed.

Reading for pleasure (消遣) is the easiest way to become a better reader in English. It is also the most important way.

Some students say they don't want to read for pleasure. They say they want to use their time to learn the rules of the language and new words. They say that pleasure reading is too busy.

Many experts (专家) say that pleasure reading is very important for learning English. Dr. Stephen Krashen, a famous expert on learning languages, says that pleasure reading helps you learn many important things about English. Students learn more grammar and more words when they read for pleasure. They also learn more about good writing.

Dr. Krashen tells us that pleasure reading helps each student in a different way. Each student needs to learn something different. Pleasure reading makes it possible for each student to learn what he or she needs.

Reading for pleasure is not the same as studying. When you read for pleasure, you choose your own books, and you don't have to remember everything. There are no tests on your pleasure reading books. Pleasure reading will help you:

•learn how English speakers use English

•read faster in English

•find examples of good writing in English

•learn new words

•learn about the culture of English speakers

 阅读下面短文,从每小题给出的A、B、C、D4个选项中选出最佳选项。

A lot of animals travel from one place to another. We call this migration.

In Africa, large animals, like elephants and zebras, migrate to find food and water. They usually follow the same ways every year.

A lot of birds migrate to find food and better weather, too. They are usually birds that eat insects. They spend the summer in northern Europe, because there are lots of insects there. In the winter there aren't any insects, so the birds fly south to southern Europe and Africa.

Some insects migrate, too. In North America, millions of monarch butterflies fly south to spend the winter in Mexico, California and Florida, where it's warmer. They travel 50-65 km each day and they travel about 1,125 km.

Some fish migrate to breed (繁殖). Salmon (鲑鱼) can swim over 20,000 km in their life. They are born in rivers in Ireland, Scotland and other places in northern Europe. The young fish swim down the river to the sea and into the Atlantic Ocean. They live in the ocean until they are adults. Then they return to the river where they were born. They lay their eggs in the river and then they usually die. Salmon do this, because their eggs are safer in the river. Other fish can't eat them.

Arctic terns (北极燕鸥) travel the furthest when they migrate. They spend the summer in the Arctic, but when winter comes they fly to the Antarctic, because it's summer there. The next year they fly back to the Arctic again. In one year these small birds travel 36, 000km from one end of the earth to the other and back again. Nobody knows how they do it.
