Jane: Oh, it's very nice. The house is much bigger than the flat we had in London and one of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} best things is being able to walk out of the back door into {#blank#}3{#/blank#} own garden.

Pam: Mm, that must be lovely. So all in all, it's much better than London, isn't it?

Jane: Well, I'm not sure I would say that. It's certainly less polluted here {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I suppose it's less stressful and that must be good for me. But it's just so much quieter here and that takes some time to get {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (use) to.

Pam: But it's so much busier on the streets here in London. It must be nice to walk around somewhere that is much less crowded.

Jane: Well, sometimes it is. Anyway,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} least I'm coming up to London next weekend. I'm more excited about that than I am about anything {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(happen) round here.

Pam: Oh dear, you seem to be thinking that you haven't made the best {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (decide)

Jane: Well, perhaps I'll feel more settled here after a few months.

Pam: Yes,{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (probable). I personally think you're lucky to be where you are. When I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(come) to visit you, I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever seen.

    The ancient wisdom of Confucius is timeless. His thinking{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (lead) the Chinese for thousands of years. However, English teaching seems to be one place {#blank#}2{#/blank#} his wisdom is forgotten.

    I came to China 6 years ago, and quickly saw the plight (困境) of so many students {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (struggle) to learn English. They know a lot “about” English,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} they never master the language. They learned far more grammar than students in Western cultures and almost no oral training. They were made {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(recite) sentences and passages from their books. Their teachers were spending 90% of the class talking to them “about” English in Chinese.

    All effective language teaching in the world is built{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the basis of oral language. Students who excel in English are those that follow the wisdom of Confucius: they use language!

    They use it primarily by speaking and listening,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (eventual) supplemented (补充) by reading and writing. Every language is taught by gaining speaking competence long before grammar, reading and writing {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (introduce).

    Chinese students work so hard{#blank#}9{#/blank#} they learned English with correct spoken instructions and classroom practice, they would have the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (high) English scores in the world and they would conquer English.

    The Wandering Earth is a Chinese science fiction movie {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(direct) by Frant Gwo,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}is based on the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin, and{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(release) on February 5,2019, the Chinese New Year's Day.

    After learning the sun is dying out, people all around the world build giant planet thrusters (推进器)to move the earth out of{#blank#}4{#/blank#}orbit and sail it to a new star system. The 2500 years' journey came with{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(expect) dangers, but in order to save humanity, a group of young people came out bravely and fought hard for everyone's {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(survive).

    We are impressed to see the theme of this film. It doesn't particularly show somebody's ability to save our world{#blank#}7{#/blank#}shows all human beings are working together, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(spare) no effort to save this world.

    The Wandering Earth is seen by people{#blank#}9{#/blank#}the dawn of Chinese science fiction movies. It means that China's sci-fi movies have {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(official) set sail.

    I remember reading a statement by a psychiatrist who said that if you ever feel depressed, the best thing to do {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to do something for someone else. Why? Because it gets you focused outward, not{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. It's hard to be depressed{#blank#}3{#/blank#} serving someone else. Ironically, a by-product of helping others is feeling wonderful yourself.

    I remember sitting in an airport one day, waiting for my{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (fly). I was excited because I had been upgraded to a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} ticket. And in first class, the seats are {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (big), the food is edible, and the flight attendants are actually nice. In fact, I had the best seat on the entire plane. Seat 1A. Before boarding, I noticed a young lady who had several carry-on bags and was holding a crying {#blank#}7{#/blank#}. Having just finished{#blank#}8{#/blank#} a book on doing random acts of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (kind), I heard my conscience (良心) {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to me, "You scumbag. Let her have your ticket." I fought these promptings for a while but eventually caved in.
