语法填空。

I was never very neat, while my roommate Mary was extremely organized. Each of her {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(object)had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签)everything. I always looked for everything. She would push my dirty clothing over and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other. Finally, a war broke out one evening. Mary warned me against {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (put) my shoes under her bed. Suddenly, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.

The room was filled {#blank#}3{#/blank#} anger. We could not have stayed together for {#blank#}4{#/blank#} single minute but for a phone call. Mary answered {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. From her end of the conversation,I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬)under her covers, sobbing. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (obvious), that was something she should not go through alone.

I realized that I should do something {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (show) my concern. Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn't notice Mary was watching .She {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (reach) out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(she)eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”

Mary and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn't always agree, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.

Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

How can my son be a year old already?

My son turned one last week. The day marked the end of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} has been both the longest and shortest year of my life. I haven't slept for a year and I don't really know how time works any more. From the instant he was born, it's felt {#blank#}2{#/blank#} my son has always been part of this family.

How is he one already? First he was born, and was a sleepy ball of flesh then, and now in his place is a little boy who {#blank#}3{#/blank#} walk and has teeth and knows how to switch off the television at precisely the most important moment of anything I ever try to watch. It's not exactly {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (extraordinary) development in all of human history — child gradually gets older — but it's the first time I {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (see) it close up. It's honestly quite hard to grasp. Even photos of him {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (take) last week seem like a different boy. He's leaving milestone after milestone in his tiny parts of me along with them.

He'll never again be the tiny baby who lay in my arm, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (suck) on my little finger in the middle of the night while his mum slept, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} will he be the baby amazed by the taste of solid food. Soon enough he'll stop being the baby who rests his head on my shoulder whenever he gets tired, or laughs uncontrollably whenever I say the word 'teeth' for reasons, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} I don't think I'll ever work out.

But I've had a year of this and it's ok. He's never going to stop changing, and I don't want him to. This sadness, this constant sense of loss, of time slipping just {#blank#}10{#/blank#} your grasp, is an important part of this process. He won't realise this, of course. He's got years of unbroken progress ahead of him, where everything will always be new. Years of his life will pass in a moment and he won't be able to understand where they've gone.

But it's ok. You can't freeze time. You just have to make the most of what you have.

The day of the celebration arrived. However, because of an appointment taking up some time, I knew that I would be late, so l phoned to tell my friend about it. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(know)that I was on my way, he put off the official part of the celebration. I arrived 20 minutes late and my friend came out to welcome and greet me. He said he was pleased to see me.

As I joined the other guests, I could feel a wonderful sense of friendship, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (warm)and happiness in the room. Sadly, I had very little time to speak to more than a couple of people before the official part of the celebration {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(start).

In his speech, my friend welcomed all the guests{#blank#}6{#/blank#}behalf of his family and team members, and then he{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(sincere)thanked the people who were gathered in the room for their support and friendship over the past 25 years. In his thank-you speech, he used a quote:"Always dance with the person you took to the dance."

He then went on to talk about the importance of remaining{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(faith)to those people who had supported him. He also mentioned that during that time many people had offered their services and even sometimes provided{#blank#}9{#/blank#}better arrangement for his business. What a great honor it was for me{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(continue)to go to the dance with such a good friend!

I recently became friends with a young man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} had just migrated to Australia to escape war in his homeland. He was unskilled and was finding life difficult as he was unemployed. I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (work) for a company in Australia for more than ten years before I found a better job. I knew that the manager would be disappointed when I was leaving.

I knew how the terrible war had forced him to leave his homeland and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} price he had paid for doing so. I appreciate {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) able to live in Australia and believe that this {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (appreciate) is best proved by offering acts of kindness to people in need of help.
