In China, a site that amazed me was one {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (provide) by nature—the Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River, the mother river of the country.

    The Yellow River was a main source of transportation in the past. Many ports and bridges were built and destroyed by the river's strong current(水流), and it was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (challenge) for the locals back then to build a bridge {#blank#}3{#/blank#} was strong enough to withstand(承受) the current of the Yellow River.

    The hotels that {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (arrange) for us to stay in were among the best in each city we visited, which sums up {#blank#}9{#/blank#} China was shown to me, with sights both beautiful and amazing {#blank#}10{#/blank#} kind and helpful people.

    Switzerland is famous{#blank#}1{#/blank#}its watches. However, this country didn't invent the watch. It was the British who did it. Here is a story of how the watch{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (bring) to Switzerland.

    Many years ago,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Englishman traveled to Italy and on his way he stopped in a small town{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(call) Geneva in Switzerland. This Englishman traveled in a carriage(马车) inside which there was a carriage watch. This was the{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(early) kind of watch. A native shop assistant(售货员) happened to see the watch. He wondered what it was{#blank#}6{#/blank#}asked the Englishman about it. “It is a carriage watch.” answered the man. “This machine can tell the time but now {#blank#}7{#/blank#} isn't working.” At once the shop assistant offered to try repairing it. So the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (travel) handed him the watch. The man was very clever. It was easy for him {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (repair) it. He even remembered{#blank#}10{#/blank#} it was made. And he made a watch of exactly the same type.

    I always sit down comfortably in the barber's shop and listen patiently {#blank#}1{#/blank#} my barber(理发师). He either explains the current political situation and women's fashions or tells me jokes which I {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(hear) at least five times already. In twenty {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(minute), I get a great deal of information as well as a hair-cut.

    But last week our conversation was very short indeed. We heard loud cries of “fire!”{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(come) from upstairs. All of the customers and barbers made up their minds {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (escape) from the shop immediately.

    We were {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(certain) a funny sight to passers-by! I had a white sheet round my neck and my hair {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(be) half cut. My barber was close behind me with a comb and a pair of scissors in his hands. One of the customers {#blank#}8{#/blank#} had sat next to me was not so {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(luck). There were still soap bubbles on one side of his face and his barber ran after him holding a shaving-brush in one hand and a razor in the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}!

    Almost all the ice covering the Bering Sea has melted(融化), scientists have confirmed, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (throw) communities living around {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (it) shores into disorder. The region's ice cover {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (normal) lasts for at least another month, and this year it has disappeared earlier than any other year except 2017.

    Living in {#blank#}4{#/blank#} northern Pacific Ocean between Alaska and Russia, the Bering Sea is experiencing the climate change and has drawn attention this year for record-breaking levels of winter melting. In February, rising Arctic temperatures {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (lead) to around half the region's disappearing in the space of two weeks.

    A report {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (send) by the International Arctic Research Centre at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has outlined the real-world effects of these surprising environmental {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (change) on the many communities {#blank#}8{#/blank#} live in the Bering Sea region.

    In their report, the International Arctic Research Centre scientists wrote that while not every year will be as bad as this one, ice {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (form) is likely to remain low if the Bering Sea's waters remain warm. They also warn that communities will need to "prepare for more winters {#blank#}10{#/blank#} low sea ice and stormy conditions".
