When learning to drive, we're told to obey the traffic rules and not to drive our vehicles too fast. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} surprises us is that some young people just enjoy the feeling of driving cars or motorcycles at a very high speed. Jack, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 18-year-old boy, is no exception.

    Recently, Jack's father has bought {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a car, which is quite admired by his friends. When he is out in the country, where there are a few people {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (drive) and the traffic rules are not strict, this {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (adventure) boy will drive at a top speed. In towns, however, there is a speed limit, that is, fifty kilometers an hour, but Jack often drives much {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (fast).

    One day Jack was driving through towns {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a young policeman, who was new to his work, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (stop) him and said, “I'm afraid you were driving at a more than fifty kilometers an hour, Sir. Please give me your name and address. ” {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (look) at the policeman carefully, Jack said to him, “Well, Sir, I started my journey less than an hour ago.” On hearing this, he didn't know the answer{#blank#}10{#/blank#} Jack's excuse. He thought for a few seconds and then let Jack go.

    The seventh day of the seventh lunar month, called the Chinese Valentine's Day, is the only Chinese festival {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (connect) with love in the lunar calendar. Valentine's Day in China usually{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(fall) in August.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}the evening of the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, Niulang and Zhinü meet on a bridge of magpies across the Milky Way. If it rains that night, the rain will be the tears of Niulang and Zhinü.

    Compared with love stories in western legends (传说){#blank#}4{#/blank#}story of Niulang and Zhinü seem not so romantic. They just wait patiently on the riverbank,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (believe) that their love can be worth their not staying together. Unlike St. Valentine's Day in other{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(country), there is not so much importance on giving chocolates,

    {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(beauty) flowers and kisses. Instead, Chinese girls prepare fruits, melons and so on as offerings to Zhinü. They ask Zhinü to give them wisdom and high skills in making hand-made arts with needles in the hope of finding their satisfactory husbands. On that day, people in love like to go to the local temple and hope{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(get) their love and possible marriage.

    At night, people sit outdoors to observe the stars {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(happy). Some old people  say  that  if  you  stand  under  a  grapevine  ( 葡 萄 藤 ),  you  can  probably  overhear{#blank#}10{#/blank#} Niulang and Zhinü are talking about.

    One Sunday morning in August I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(go) to the local music festival. I left it early because I had an appointment {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(late) that day. My friends walked me to the bus stop and waited with me until the bus arrived.

    I got on the bus and found a seat near the back, and then I noticed a man {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(sit) at the front. He was pretending that a tiger toy was real and giving it a voice. He must be {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(mental) disabled. Behind him were other people to whom he was trying to talk, but after some minutes, he walked away and sat near me, looking {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(annoy).

    I didn't want to be laughed at for {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(talk) to him but I didn't like leaving him on his own {#blank#}7{#/blank#}.

    After a while I rose from my seat and walked to the front of the bus. I sat next to the man and introduced{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (I).

    We had {#blank#}9{#/blank#}amazing conversation. He got off the bus before me and I felt very happy the rest of the way home.

    I'm glad I made a choice. It made {#blank#}10{#/blank#} of us feel good.

    In elementary school, George wasn't {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (exact) popular, but he always had a couple of really good friends. In middle school, he was really good at science and math. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} most kids were going to the movies on weekends, George preferred to design his own special projects. He dreamed of owning his own technology company someday. When George got to high school, some of the other students made {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of him for being into books and computers. This made George very upset, but he tried not to let anything keep his dream from {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (achieve). George got excellent grades and was admitted {#blank#}5{#/blank#} both Harvard and Yale, but he decided to go to Stanford {#blank#}6{#/blank#} there were many opportunities for people {#blank#}7{#/blank#} wanted to work in Silicon Valley. This was the first time George {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (feel) accepted by the people around him. He took many computer classes, and kept designing his own projects on weekends. During the summer months, he would take extra classes, and he ended up {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (graduate) a year early. He took a job {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a computer programmer at Apple. After five more years there, George left to start his own company, finally realizing his childhood dream.
