Nosey and the Porcupine（豪猪）

    Nosey knew that she was supposed to stay in the yard, but the gate was let open. She took a glance {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the woods up the street. For Nosey there was nothing as wonderful as {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(dash) among the trees and sniffing（嗅）the flowers. After all, she was called Nosey for a reason. Her name described her usual, day-to-day {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(behave).

    She quietly slipped out of the yard and headed towards the woods. Soon after Nosey arrived in the woods, a butterfly landed on her nose. She reached for it, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it few away. Then Nosey {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(spot) it again on a berry bush. When she was within striking distance, she jumped. The butterfly fluttered out of Nosey's reach once more, but it was too late for Nosey {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(stop). She landed directly on top of the berry bush with a crash. At first, she was astonished by the sudden fall. Then she was shocked to find {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(she) face to face with a sleeping porcupine under the bush!

    The arrival of a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(noise) visitor caused the porcupine to wake up. Nosey had ever seen a porcupine before, so she gently sniffed at it with her nose, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} really annoyed the porcupine. He turned around and the quills（棘刺）on his tail were standing up. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(sudden) Nosey found herself with a nose full of quills.

    A month ago, Gary, a university student, was interviewed by two famous{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(company). Unfortunately, he{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(refuse). The reason is that he has no work experience. As we all know, most young people who have just{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(graduate) from university and that they, too, meet{#blank#}4{#/blank#} same problem. I think students should make a good understanding of companies {#blank#}5{#/blank#}big companies are afraid that new employees without experience are not likely to do the job well. So in order to win the employers' trust and to make {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(they) find good jobs easily, university graduates should do some part-time jobs{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(get) rich work experience before graduating. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}the same time they have to learn how to get along well with others. By {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (do) this they can put their knowledge into social practice and can touch society earlier. I am sure that part-time jobs can make the graduates be qualified for many well-paid jobs {#blank#}10{#/blank#}they desire.

    As I write this, I'm sitting on a bus back to Santiago in Chile where I am working {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a writer. I've just spent the weekend in a city called La Serena north of Santiago. I was lucky enough to see the flowering desert, a natural scene that {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (occur) around every five years here in the Atacama Desert.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (follow) a particularly large amount of rainfall earlier, a(n) {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (vary) of flowers come into blossom. Bright purple flowers create {#blank#}5{#/blank#} unbelievably beautiful scene at the base of the surrounding mountains.

    {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (have) a look at this wonderful treasure of nature, we took a bus from La Serena to a nearby town and then rented a car to go to the desert. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} we saw did not disappoint us, and as expected it was even more fascinating than the pictures we had seen online. The bloom was particularly {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (impress) this year due to the strong presence of El Niño (a band of warm water in the Pacific Ocean that changes the temperatures and increases the rainfall in certain areas). The vast carpet of color {#blank#}9{#/blank#} spread into the distance towards the green hills was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (simple) breathtaking and deserved a large amount of photos! A real reminder of the beauty our planet can provide.
