It's well-known by all the people to greet friends with a smile and a wave. However, what happens if your face and body send mixed messages? Would someone tend to believe the look on your face or the way you behave?

Recently, scientists have dealt with these questions. They found that when a person is staring at your face, he might not believe what he sees if your body doesn't match the feeling that your face shows. Previous study had showed that the tone of a person's voice can be more important than the words spoken. For example, most people are more likely not to believe a person who says in a flat voice, “I'm so excited.”

When talking about emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies that showed anger or fear.

An angry face had low eyebrows and tight lips. A frightened face had high eyebrow and a slightly open mouth.A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square, as if ready to fight back.

These results told the researchers that mixed messages can confuse people. Even when people pay attention to the face, body language surely influences the emotion they read.

And if you want to be understood it helps to avoid sending mixed messages.

A. Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists.

B. So, your body language is important for telling people your feelings.

C. Scientists feel new to study the mixed message that puzzles people.

D. An angry body had arms back and shoulders at an angle, as if ready to fight.

E. Body language can sometimes be misunderstood in different culture backgrounds.

F. They also showed pictures where angry or scared faces were paired with angry or scared bodies.

G. When doing this, your face and body work together to show your friends that you are happy to see them.

I have seen how having an animal in your life can make things much better for all concerned. Here are some reasons.

    A pet's love never stops.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Even if you cannot return that unconditional love, just knowing that it is there will make your life better.

Caring for something other than yourself is emotionally healthy.

Giving and getting a little love, even if you have to say "sit down" 270 times a day, can take your mind off your troubles and help you to see what really matters.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

If you have a dog, you need to take it (and yourself) on walks. Dogs are happiest when they are walking. And it's common knowledge that taking regular walks is also good for your heart and brain health.

Just the act of petting a creature lowers your blood pressure and helps you relax.

The next time you are feeling uncomfortable, I suggest going to your local shelter and giving some love to an animal there. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, but notice how you feel when the two of you are exchanging emotional energy. And don't be surprised if you do adopt!

Saving a life will make yours better.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, but what about the used ones? All my animals have been rescued, and they are as sweet as can be.

Maybe you think you don't have enough room in your heart.

You may already have a family to love, and that is totally wonderful. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. I know not everybody is an animal lover, but if you think you might be, don't lose this chance.

A. You won't have to take it home

B. Some people want lovely pets

C. Having a pet is also physically healthy

D. If you want more love in your life, consider a pet

E. Taking your dog for a walk can make your dog happy

Have you avoided the gym because you're too nervous or self-conscious (难为情的)? But if becoming healthier and more fit is one of your goals, heading to the gym is probably on your agenda.

    First of all, let's put this into perspective. Your attention may go right to the fittest people in the room who are moving from machine to machine with ease.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}It's hard to believe that every single one feels confident. One thing for sure is, repeated action builds up confidence, and the more frequently you go, the more familiar you'll get with your surroundings and the less nervous you'll feel. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Work out a plan. Walk around the gym and check out the busy areas, the less crowded areas, the different machines, etc. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Now, with a plan in place, you can confidently move from exercise to exercise.

Start slow with cardio (健心运动). You can also get familiar with the gym by getting onto a stationary bike and going at a relaxed pace.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Notice other people and what exercises they are doing to get some ideas, look at the machines around you, and survey the gym to feel more comfortable.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} You may feel the need to move quickly from machine to machine. But if you stop to observe others around you, you'll notice many of them are working out in a relaxed manner. So, take your time, walk slowly and use that time to figure out your next move. Who knows if you're planning your next exercise or heading somewhere? Other people are so focused on their routine that they're most likely not paying attention to you anyway.

There are some popular family videos posted on Chinese social media. In these videos, a young child calls out to their mother or father; the parent enters the room smiling, turns around and calls out to their own parent; the grandparent then enters smiling and calls out to their parent – the great-grandparent.

The format of these videos is being described as the "four-generation challenge". {#blank#}1{#/blank#} People from all over the world have left comments and even made their own versions.

A Facebook user named Antoine Yupud wrote, "I have to give that to China. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}." The "four-generation" videos have not only touched foreign viewers, but also given them a deeper look into Chinese family values.

In most East Asian cultures, it is common for many generations of a single family to live together under one roof. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Many Western countries tend to have nuclear families, made up of just children and their parents.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Kids usually move out of the family home after turning 18. Many apply for loans and work part-time jobs to pay for college and rent. If they choose to continue living with their parents after becoming an adult, it can be seen as a sign of immaturity or failure.

Although family structures in the United States may differ, the loving bonds between family members are common to both. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

A. Family devotion is usually a strong value.

B. This is called an extended family.

C. These videos have spread to social media in other countries.

D. Nuclear families gradually took the place of extended families.

E. In United States culture, independence is highly valued.

F. These videos have made many people miss their own grandparents.

G. That might be why the "four-generation" videos have gained popularity around the world.
