There are many kinds of food in the world. Scientists know a lot about them. They say that there are some kinds of food people must eat every day. For example, people must eat some green and yellow vegetables. We shouldn't eat too much meat. People also need to eat some fruits, bread and rice. Of course our bodies need some water and milk.

Scientists say people in different countries and different places eat different kinds of food. They cook food in different ways. Different people eat at different times. In one place, people eat once or twice a day. But in another place, people eat three or four times. The scientists say when to eat and how many times to eat are not important. What we eat is the most important thing.

Nowadays, the world faces two problems. People in some places, for example, in Africa, are not full. Many people are eating junk food. It's bad for people's health. So it's our duty to make everyone full and make everyone healthy.

Cats' sense of smell is very important to their health. Many cat owners have seen a cat smell the food and refuses it. Careful sniffing tells the cat if something is safe to eat.
Cats have a pair of vomeronasal organs(犁鼻器) on the roof of the mouth. When the cat wants to sniff, she will breathe the air in through her mouth. At this moment, she will often squint(斜视) her eyes and maybe even flatten(使…平坦) her ears. This makes her look like she is making faces. The vomeronasal organs will then analyze the smell—almost as if the cat is tasting the smell.
When you come home from outside the house, your cat can smell what you had for lunch and for a mid-afternoon snack. She can smell the people you shook hands with and your neighbour you stopped to talk to and hug. She can smell the grass brought under your shoes as you took a shortcut across the lawn. Your cat's sense of smell is so good that she can smell difference between a gallon of water with a teaspoon of salt in it and plain water. In comparison, we think of salt as completely tasteless.
Cats have scent glands(臭腺) on each side of the forehead, on the chin, the lips and next to the tail. When your cat rubs up against your hand, your leg, the sofa, and your bed, she is leaving her scent in those things. She will then use her sense of smell to recognize “her” things, people and even other pets in the home.
If you want to have fun with your cat's sense of smell, take some small bits of different things, such as a bit of chicken, some flowers and some fish. Place each different scent under a piece of paper towel(so your cat cannot see any of them) and encourage your cat to investigate and find what kind of food she likes to eat best.

Do equations and historical( 历史的) facts give you a headache? A change in the school timetable(课程表) may be the cure.

This  suggestion  is  based  on  a  recent  study  carried  out  by  scientists  from  Royal  Holloway, University of London, the UK. They found that teenagers could get higher marks in math if they studied in the mornings and better grades in history if they were taught in the afternoons.

The researchers studied students' grade reports, class timetables and absence rates( 缺席率) at a middle school in Bulgaria over nine years. The results showed that when teenagers had math classes earlier in the day, they scored about 7 percent higher in tests than when taught in the afternoon. Lower-ability students feel stressed most when they were studying math in the afternoon. In history, students taught in the afternoon scored about 6 percent higher than when they were taught in the morning. However, there was no sign that similar patterns( 模 式 ) work for other subjects such as languages or geography.

Velichka Dimitrova, who did the study, said the findings show that we perform( 表 现 ) better at different times of the day. “In the morning, our brains are better and fresher, so we are better at doing something like problem solving, where we require more speed and attention” Dimitrova told The Telegraph. “In the afternoon, it seems that this process slows down. On the other hand, history is more suitable for the afternoon, when we are more creative and open to discussion,” she said. Subjects such as foreign languages require both memory and creativity. This is perhaps why the time of day had no influence on language learning.

Time-of-day influences such as these are believed to have something to do with the body clock.

This is the system in our bodies that controls when we need to sleep. Some schools in the US and UK have tried later school starting times for teenagers, whose body clocks change as they grow into adults. Dimitrova believes schools should jump at this chance to improve their students' performance just by changing their timetables.
