Did you know that each day one person in the USA throws away 4.4 pounds of rubbish? Almost every month, we throw away our own rubbish in packaging alone. Packaging (including boxes, bags, etc.) comes to our homes with the things we have bought. Several weeks ago, the TV news said that in a city in Italy tons of rubbish were piled up in the streets, and the smell was rather terrible. What can we do to help? We should get to know the following Rs.

Reduce To reduce means to make less rubbish. That is one of the first things we all should do for the environment. Reduce your rubbish by doing things like packing your lunch in reusable containers(可再利用的容器), taking smaller portions(份) at dinner so you don't waste food when you have had enough, writing on both sides of paper, and using less water when taking a shower.

Reuse to reuse is to use things again. Think about the bags you get from the shop. They can be reused to carry your lunch, to hold your rubbish, or to collect used cans. You can even take them back to the school next time to carry your things instead of getting a new bag!

Recycle(回收利用) Recycling is an important part of keeping our planet clean and green. It can also save energy. Be sure that you don't throw things in the rubbish bins that can be recycled to make something else Paper, plastic, cans and bottles can all be recycled. But food, electrical waste and mobile phones cant. When you are not sure whether something can be recycled, go to your parents and teachers for advice.

Follow the three Rs, and every one of us can do something to save the Earth. It is also the best way to save ourselves.

(1)、The first paragraph of the passage implies(暗示) that ______.
A、packaging should be given up B、Italy is too dirty for us to visit C、the USA produces the most rubbish D、the Earth is becoming dirtier
(2)、If you want to reduce, you should ______.
A、make good use of your paper B、take a bath instead of a shower C、eat a small dinner every day D、pack your lunch with newspapers
(3)、The writer seems to ask people to reuse the bags ______.
A、only as rubbish bags B、only for carrying other things C、mainly to have a cleaner world D、mainly to save some money
(4)、Which of the following can be recycled?
A、Food and bottles. B、Books and newspapers. C、Paper and mobile phones. D、Plastic and electrical waste.

Have you ever suddenly felt that someone you know was in trouble—and he was? Have you ever dreamed something that came true later? Maybe you have ESP.
ESP stands for(代表) Extra Sensory Perception. It may be called a sixth sense. It seems to let people know about events before they happen, or events that are happening some distance away.
Here is an example: A woman was doing washing. Suddenly she screamed, “My father is dead! I saw him sitting in the chair!” Just then. a telegram came. The woman's father had died of a heart attack. He died sitting in a chair.
There are thousands of stories like this on record. Scientists are studying them to find out what is behind these strange mental messages. Here's another example—one of hundreds of dreams that have come true.
A man dreamed he was walking along a road when a horse and carriage came by. The driver said, “There's room for one more.” The man felt the driver was dead, so he ran away. The next day the man was getting on a crowded bus. The bus driver said, “There's room for one more.” Then the man saw the driver's face was the same face he had seen in the dream. He wouldn't get on the bus. As the bus drove off, it crashed and burst into flames. Everyone was killed!
Some people say stories like these are lies or coincidences. Others, including some scientists say that ESP is true. From studies of  ESP, we may some day learn more about the human mind.

While watching movies, it's getting hard to tell what is and isn't real. Thanks to computers, movie makers can now use their full imaginations. There's even a new type of character--made entirely by computers—which is getting more and more screen time.
Making the impossible look easy has always been a part of movie magic. As far back as 1895, filmmakers used special effects in movies. Over the years, many few techniques(技术) were developed. Then, starting in the 1970s, computers took their place at the center of the process.
One of the first movies to widely use 3D computer generated(生成的,产生的) imagery (CGI) was Tron(1982). In the following years, more CGI characters were brought to life, one by one. Then, Jurassic park (1993) brought us an island full of man-eating dinosaurs. Shortly afterwards, Toy Story (1995) became the first cartoon made entirely with 3D CGI effects. It was a big hit, and audiences loved the characters.
By using “motion capture” technology, filmmakers can make the movements of CGI humans even more lifelike. With this technique, a real actor wears sensors(感受器,传感器) on his face and body. The sensors record the actor's movements and send the information to a computer. Then the movements are given to a CGI character. This technique was used to make the creature(生物,有生命的东西) Gollum in the second and third The Lord of the Rings movies (2002, 2003). Other films, like Beowulf (2007), have also used motion capture to help create CGI humans.
It is still rather easy to tell that a CGI human is not real. But the technology is improving every year. Over time, many problems ( like the teeth and eyes looking fake) will be solved. We will certainly see more CGI animals, monsters, and people in movies and TV shows. The question is – in the future, how many real actors will be put out of work by computer actors?

When you build a house, you use a blueprint. What's a blueprint? In general,a blueprint is a drawing that you use to build a house and shows where to put all the parts of the house.DNA is a drawing, too. It's the blueprint of life.

But building a living thing is far more complex*than building a house. It takes millions of years for nature to change the DNA in living things to make them fit the world they live in.

How tall are you? What color are your eyes? What size are your feet? All these things are strongly influenced by your DNA before you are born.

DNA is fantastic!

★Except for some twins, every living thing has its own unique*DNA.

★Some health problems can be caused by problems in your DNA.Scientists can look for these problems and, sometimes, help you if you become sick.In the future, scientists might be able to change your DNA.

★There are copies of your DNA in every part of your body. For example, your finger has the same DNA as your hair.

★You have your own unique DNA,which repeats patterns from your parents' DNA.but not exactly the same. From your DNA,scientists can identify not only you,but also people who are related to you.Your parents and grandparents are related to you,and you have their DNA.When you have a grandson or granddaughter,he or she will have your DNA.

Your DNA has billions of instructions that explain why you are the way you are. It's one of the most amazing things on the earth !

Football is so popular in China. Almost everyone is interested in this sport—the young and the old, boys and girls, and now even robots.

Recently at Hangzhou Guangming Middle School, kids from several schools played football with their robots.

Robot football is very different from human football. Only two robots play in each match. The field is as big as a ping pong table. One half is black and the other is white. Each robot tries to catch the "football" and score a goal. The robot with more goals wins.

Gao Linge, a boy from Hangzhou Guangming Middle School, helped make one of the robots for the match.

"My school bought the main board (主板),"said Gao, 14. "Then I decided what my robot looked like and made a computer program for it."

Gao's robot was eight centimeters tall and had two arms. It had four sensors (传感器) to "see" and "kick" the "football".

Ying Xuehai, a 12-year-old student from Gao's school, also made a robot. His robot played against Gao's. The match decided who would go to the final game. Ying lost the game. So he gave many of his robot's parts to Gao.

Even so, Gao's robot didn't win the final. It played well in the first five minutes. Then it slowed down. By the end of the match, it could hardly move. What was wrong? Gao and Ying found the problem—the robot ran out of batteries (电池)!

"We'll solve the problem and beat the other schools next time!" said the two boys.
