Measles (麻疹) breaks out in the Northwest

    The U.S. is experiencing outbreaks of measles, a disease it had declared eliminated years ago, largely due to a drop in vaccination (接种疫苗) rates in some communities.

    An outbreak in Washington state has sickened 23 people this month, mostly children under 10. Local health officials in Clark County, declared a public-health {#blank#}1{#/blank#} on Friday. They also urged residents to track {#blank#}2{#/blank#} symptoms and call ahead before heading to medical centers.

    State officials announced the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of measles from the U.S. in 2000, thanks to a widespread vaccination program. But travelers entering the country with measles, as well as dropping vaccination rates in some states in recent years, has led to a rise in infection. Last year, there were a total of 17 outbreaks, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} as three or more cases linked together, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. New York and New Jersey {#blank#}5{#/blank#} for roughly half of the 2018 cases. The Clark County outbreak began early last week with three confirmed cases and has since grown to 23 confirmed and two more {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. Of those cases, 20 were unvaccinated and the others are unconfirmed.

    Measles is highly {#blank#}7{#/blank#}; the virus spreads through the air by coughing or sneezing, the CDC says. Early {#blank#}8{#/blank#} include a high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes, followed by tiny, white spots inside the mouth and the red, bumpy rash (疹子) that people {#blank#}9{#/blank#} associate with the infection. Children younger than 5 or adults older than 20 are more likely to suffer from complications, according to the CDC.

    In order to prevent the further spread of the outbreak, local health officials are posting times and places where residents may have been exposed. They are urging residents who haven't been vaccinated to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} whether they have been exposed and to take appropriate action.

    The Internet has been found a new usage. Increasingly, more and more Americans are having a(an) {#blank#}1{#/blank#}to become their own doctors, by going online to order home health tests or medical devices, or even self-treat their illnesses with drugs from Internet pharmacies(药店). Some people{#blank#}2{#/blank#} doctors because of the high cost medical care, especially if they{#blank#}3{#/blank#} health insurance. Or they may{#blank#}4{#/blank#} to see a doctor because they find it embarrassing to discuss their weight, alcohol consumption or couch potato habits. Patients may also fear what they might learn about their health, or they distrust physicians because of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}in the past. But to become their own doctors can be{#blank#}6{#/blank#}.

    Every day, more than six million American search the Internet for medical answers. Most of them have no{#blank#}7{#/blank#} about what they find. In 2002, a survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 72 percent of those surveyed believe all or most of what they read on health websites. Actually, most of such web sites are only interested in doing{#blank#}8{#/blank#} business. Of the 169 websites the researchers rated, only 16 scored as "high quality". Recent studies found faulty facts about all sorts of other disorders, causing one research team to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} that a large amount of incomplete, inaccurate and even dangerous information exists on the Internet.

    The problem is that most people don't know the safe way to surf the web. "They use a search engine like Google, get 18 trillion choices and start clicking. But that's risky, because almost anybody can put up a site that looks {#blank#}10{#/blank#} , so it's hard to know National Cancer Institute.

    An {#blank#}1{#/blank#} arson attack on a respected Japanese animation studio left a shocked nation grieving, as investigators looked to identify victims and determine a possible motive in one of the deadliest acts of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in Japan's modern history.

    A total of 33 people — many of them young — were killed a day earlier when a man {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to douse flammable liquid through the Kyoto Animation Co. studio and set it alight, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} an inferno, officials said. Some 36 others were injured, about 10 critically.

    The blaze at the production house struck at a pillar of Japan's anime industry, an obsession in the country and a cherished cultural {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Kyoto Animation, known as KyoAni, had produced hits such as "Lucky Star," "K-On!" and "Haruhi Suzumiya, " {#blank#}6{#/blank#} worldwide acclaim for its skilled drawings.

    Outside the charred shell of the company's workspace in Kyoto's outskirts on Friday, crowds of well-wishers left flowers and messages of support for the victims. Many bowed, or {#blank#}7{#/blank#} down and prayed as they offered their respects.

    The {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, Shinji Aoba, aged 41, remained in the hospital after {#blank#}9{#/blank#} burns all over his body. A woman who saw police detain the man a day earlier told reporters that he "seemed to be discontented, he seemed to get angry, shouting something about how he had been plagiarized, " according to Reuters.

    Hideaki Hatta, a co-founder and president of Kyoto Animation, said Thursday that the studio had been receiving {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, including emails threatening murder. He said the attack had "broken our hearts."
