Two little children were sitting by the fire one cold winter's night. Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door. “Who can it be?” they wondered. One ran{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (curious) to open it. There, outside in the cold and the darkness, stood a child {#blank#}2{#/blank#} no shoes on his feet and dressed in old thin garments. He was trembling with cold, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} he asked to come in and warm himself.

    “Yes, come,” cried both the children. They drew the little stranger to their warm seat, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (share) their supper with him, and gave him their bed, and they slept on a hard bench.

    On the night, they{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (awake) by sweet music,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} was played by a band of children in shining garments. Suddenly the stranger child stood in front of {#blank#}7{#/blank#}: no longer cold and ragged, but dressed in silvery light. He said, “I am the Christ Child, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (wander) through the world to bring peace and {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(happy) to good children as you. As you have helped me so much, this tree will give rich fruit to you every year.”

    When he was saying that, he broke {#blank#}10{#/blank#} branch from the tree that grew near the door, planted it in the ground and disappeared. But the branch grew into a great tree, and every year it bore wonderful golden fruit for the kind children.

    She is widely seen as example that good looks can last forever. At nearly 500 years of age, time is catching up with the Mona Lisa.     John Snow was an expert doctor who attended Queen Victoria {#blank#}1{#/blank#} her personal physician. However, he was well-known for his defeat of “King Cholera”. During the mid-19th century, London suffered a series of cholera outbreaks. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(expose) to the deadly disease, many thousands of {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(terrify) people died every time there was an outbreak. John was determined to help them. He believed the disease {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(absorb) into people's bodies through meals and he needed evidence to prove his idea. In 1854, when there was {#blank#}5{#/blank#} outbreak in London, he was ready to began his enquiry. He gathered the information and marked on a map the exact places {#blank#}6{#/blank#} all the dead people had lived. With the help of the map, he found that in two particular streets, the outbreak was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(extreme) severe. He did further research and found the polluted water from pump was {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(blame). He immediately told the astonished people not to drink the water. Later, John found supporting evidence from two other deaths linked to the Broad Street outbreak. So, he was able to announce with {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(certain) that cholera was spread by germs. To prevent this from happening again, John Snow suggested that the source of all the water sources {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(examine). Finally, King Cholera was defeated.

    No trip would be complete without experiencing the local food culture. Actually, China has various kinds of delicious food, including a wide variety of local snacks.

    For most of the foreigners I contacted, and myself {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (include), Peking Duck, Mongolian Hot Pot are the favourite Chinese dishes. China is a place {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the food is not only delicious, but the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cheap) I've ever found.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} my last night in Beijing before {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (return) to the States, I went to a Peking Duck restaurant that had been suggested for me to try. What a beautiful place! Splendid woodblock prints on the walls, fresh flowers in the vases,  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(attract) silverware (银餐具) and beautiful chopsticks. I was handed {#blank#}7{#/blank#} menu and found most of the prices were especially low for the high quality of the food. The lucky came in whole or half, along with all the little decorations - a little tortilla (玉米粉圆饼) to put the sliced cluck and vegetables in, chopped onion and sauce.

    Anyway, I ordered a whole duck, thinking I'd just take the rest back to my hotel {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(eat) later if I couldn't finish it.{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(believable), in the end there was none of the whole duck {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(leave) on the plate.
