The story took place in a small town in winter. One day a man met an old lady standing by an expensive car. It was clear that her car broke down. So he stopped his old truck and got out. Although he was smiling, the old lady was worried. “Is he going to hurt me?”

The man could see that she was frightened, so in his friendliest voice he said, “I'm here to help you, madam. ①Why don't you wait in the car to get warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.” It took Bryan about forty minutes to repair the car. The lady felt quite thankful and she asked how much she should pay him.

But Bryan wanted no money. ②对他来说,帮助别人很正常。He said, “If you want to repay me, next time you see someone in need, just give out your friendly hand.”

After saying goodbye, the lady continued down the road till she reached a small café. She stopped for something to eat. As the pretty waitress stood next to her, the lady noticed she was nearly eight months pregnant (怀孕). Although she looked tired, she still served the customers with a smile on her face. As the old lady was going to pay the $10 bill, she remembered Bryan's words.

The old lady paid one hundred-dollar bill. But when the waitress returned with the change, the lady was gone. On the table she saw a small note. ③Her eyes were filled with tears when she read it, “Somebody once helped me the way I'm helping you. If you want to pay me back, continue being kind to others. ” Under the note were nine more $100 bills.

Was the old lady an angel? The waitress was so excited that she called her husband to tell the story. “Bryan…Bryan Anderson my dear… you're not going to believe what has happened… ”

Frank was a very talkative little boy. He never saw a new thing without asking a great many questions about it.

His mother was very patient and kind. When it was proper to answer his questions, she would do so. Sometimes she would say, "You are not old enough to understand that, my son. When you are ten years old, you may ask me about it, and I will tell you." When his mother said this, Frank never bother(烦扰)her any more. He knew she always liked to answer him when he asked proper questions.

The first time Frank saw an hourglass, he was very much interested, but he did not know what it was. His mother said, "An hourglass is made in the shape of the figure 8. The sand is put in at one end and runs through a small hole in the middle. As much sand is put into the glass as will run through in an hour."

Frank watched the little stream of sand. He was impatient, because it would not run faster. "Let me shake it, mother," said he, "it is lazy, and will never get through."

"Oh, yes, it will, my son," said his mother, "The sand moves by little and little, but it moves all the time. When you look at the hands of the clock, you think they go very slowly, and so they do, but they never stop. While you are at play, the sand is running, grain by grain(一粒粒). The hands of the clock are moving, second by second. At night, the sand in the hourglass has run through twelve times. The hour hand of the clock has moved all around its great face. This because they keep at work every minute. They do not stop to think how much they have to do, and how long it will take them to do it."

Now, Frank's mother wanted him to learn a little hymn(赞美诗), but he said, "Mother, I can never learn it."

His mother said, "Study all the time. Never stop to ask how long it will take to learn it. You will be able to say it very soon."

Frank followed his mother's advice. He studied line after line, very busily; and in one hour and a half he knew the hymn perfectly.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has talked about how to be a good parent, saying that 13 is a right age for a child's first cellphone. The father of three said on the show that his children Jennifer and Rory were not allowed having phones until their thirteenth birthday and his younger daughter Phoebe is still waiting for one.

"We've made a rule in our family that it's 13 when you get a phone." He also said as a result his children often return home from school complaining(抱怨), "All the other kids have it. I'm the only one without it. It's so embarrassing."

Asked if he keeps passwords(密码)to his son's and daughters' email and Facebook accounts(账号), Mr Gates said that he doesn't for Jennifer, who he said was" old enough".

Besides their wealth, Mr and Mrs Gates, who live in Lake Medina, have said they want to raise their children as normally as possible. It is said that their kids have to do housework after school and aren't given much pocket money.

And in 2010Mr Gates said that he wanted to give most of his $ 61 billion away rather than hand it down." That wouldn't be good for my kids or society, "he said.

Mr Gates left Microsoft in 2008 to put his heart into charity. During the interview with host Matt Lauser, he said that helping others made him feel happy as creating software.

"What you really feel is what you've achieved. If a piece of software gets out there and lots of people love it-it lets them get their work done in better ways-that's exciting, "he explained.
