Millions of people have seen Disney films and TV programmes. They have made friends with all the Disney heroes: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, and Peter Pan. Millions more have visited Disney Parks. Probably no other company has pleased so many children. It is not surprising that it has been called a dream factory.

    Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois. Then his family moved to Missouri. He grew up on a farm there. At the age of 16, Disney began to study art in Chicago. Four years later, he joined the Kansas City Film Ad Company. He helped make cartoon advertisements to be shown in cinemas.

    In 1923, Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to join his brother Roy.  He wanted to be a film producer or director. But he failed to find a job. So he decided to make animated films. In these films, drawings are made to move in a lifelike way. We call them cartoons. Disney wanted to bring his pictures to life.

    Disney opened his first company in the back of an office. For the first, several years, he had to work hard for a living, but he believed that cartoon films could be popular.

    Mickey Mouse was drawn with a group of circles. The public first saw Mickey Mouse in a film called Steamboat Willie. Walt Disney himself provided the voice for Mickey Mouse. The film was produced in 1928. It was a huge success. Mickey Mouse appeared in hundreds of cartoons during the years that followed. He became known all over the world.

    My friend Alice visited my city last week. She arrived in HongKong on Wednesday morning .She is from Australia. I showed her around the city.

    We visited the Clock Tower first. The Clock Tower was very tall. We took some photos there. Then we went to the City Museum. After that, we saw a good movie.

    The next day, we visited the Ladies' Street. There were a lot of clothes shops. The clothes were cheap and beautiful. Alice bought some clothes for her parents and friends. Then we went to the Seafood Street. We bought some seafood. We also had seafood in a restaurant. Both of us enjoyed the meal. Then we went to a concert in the evening. The music was fantastic!

    On the third day, the weather was very hot, so we decided to visit Hong Kong Wetland Park. We saw many kinds of plants and animals in it. They were very interesting.

    Alice went back to Australia on Friday evening. She enjoyed the trip. She invited me to visit Australia next summer.

Mr. and Mrs. Green are two old farmers in the countryside. George is 1 only son and he is 30 years old. He works in 2 big city and visits his parents only on weekends.

 On my way to work or in the supermarket,I try to describe my surroundings(环境) in my head or out loud to remind myself of vocabulary and useful phrases.

Join social groups

 Last term I joined a rock band and learned lots of new vocabulary about music. This term I will join a badminton club and a German conversation group to give myself more chances to practice speaking with people who have common interests.

Change the language settings(设置) on my mobile phone

 To encourage myself to think in German, I changed my mobile phone into German. Every time I send an e-mail, I discover new words.

Watch more films

 It's a good idea to watch familiar (熟悉的) films dubbed (配音) into German. All the voices are strange, but as I already know the story, I can follow what the characters are saying. I don't have to worry about missing anything.

Laugh at myself

I've learned from my first term that I'm very good at making mistakes. There was a time when I went shopping for a scarf and kept using the German word for"sheep". This term, instead of feeling stupid, I will laugh at my silly mistakes and try again.

 Last week, I finally managed to ask my parents to buy me a new football shirt for the school match. I was very1 and wore it to the training before the match, but I wished I hadn't done that! My new2 was torn(破损的) after the training and only a tailor(裁缝) could help!

 As I walked home 3 , I saw a shop sign: All Kinds of Repairs and Services!I went inside at once. I looked around the shop and saw broken toys, broken chairs,4 I wondered if I was in the wrong place. Just at that moment, a man with white hair 5 me and said cheerfully, "Welcome! This is a 6 shop and I can repair everything!"

"But. . . what I 7 is a tailor to deal with my football shirt. "

"You' ve come to the 8 place. I' ve been waiting a long, long time to repair a football shirt. "

"Really?" I held the shirt in my hands.
