Did you know that the Beijing Winter Olympic Village had a rooftop (屋项) farm? It covered 4, 620 square meters. To relax, athletes and coaches could try growing vegetables there.

It shows just how much Chinese people love growing vegetables.

China has a lot of available land for planting things. For centuries, Chinese people made a living through farming. The Book of Songs(《诗经》), written 2, 500 years ago, records many kinds of vegetables.

Nowadays, even though some Chinese people no longer have a lot of land, they still grow vegetables where they can.

Xue Ling, 35, is one of them. Since 2010, she has been planting vegetables on the balcony (阳台) of her apartment in Jinan, Shandong province. "It's the only way to keep my food, at least the vegetables, clean and safe," she told China Daily.

Caroline Ma from Hong Kong grows vegetables as a hobby. In 2020, Ma started farming on her rooftop and began planting seeds collected during her trips. For Ma, farming is a great experience.

"I am in my own little world and I can forget about the world's problems," she said.

It seems that planting vegetables brings more than just food for Chinese people.

"I am Peppa Pig. This is my little brother George! This is Mommy Pig and this is Daddy Pig! " Do you know this family? I like them very much. Peppa Pig is from England, and she is four years old. Her favorite thing is to play with her best(最好的) friend Suzy and her brother George. Who's George's best friend? Peppa? No! His best friend is his dinosaur(恐龙). He takes(带着) his dinosaur everywhere. Mommy Pig is beautiful. She cooks for the family. Daddy Pig sometimes cooks for them, too. They often jump in muddy puddles(泥坑) with Peppa and George. They are very happy.

It was Saturday morning when I was six years old. Christmas was still three weeks away, but everyone in town was 1 . Santa Claus, the Father Christmas, was coming in our small Irish town.

①Do you yawn? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning.

②We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too.

③Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down.

④Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch（强化）muscles（肌肉）in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things. That's why we yawn.

⑤In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air.

⑥Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do.

 For years, scientists have been researching how exposing(暴露) humans to nature may improve their physical and mental health. People are encouraged to visit forests and grow houseplants. Now researchers are also testing whether we can get some of the same benefits from experiencing nature in VR(虚拟现实). 

 Scientists are trying to understand what exactly about nature makes a real difference in health results. One tool that might help is VR, says Hector Alvarez, who wanted to find out if simply seeing nature can relax people. In an experiment, VR allowed him to expose people to the visual(视觉的) experience of nature while controlling temperature, light and air pollution. He is now preparing to publish his research. 

 People can feel safe faster in environments with lots of plants, Hector explains. "That's why I was interested in VR. If it is right that we feel safe faster in nature, it should bring your stress levels down. "

 So far, Hector says, research shows there are some health improvements by experiencing nature in VR. However, they are smaller than those got in the real nature. 

 Gretchen Daily is an environmental scientist at Stanford University. She agrees at parts of this research, especially in situations without nature. But in the long term, connection with nature in the real world can not be replaced. To some degree, Gretchen worries that the idea might take off that VR can replace the real thing. "If that's taken very far, that' ll be really harmful overall because the real thing is necessary in so many ways, " she says. "We just cannot live on a dead planet. "

①Do you ever find yourself standing in front of rubbish bins, not sure whether the piece of waste in your hand is recyclable or not? To solve this problem, four Hong Kong high school students have invented a smart rubbish bin that uses AI to sort(分类) the waste. The students named the bin Waste Collection Point. 

②Connected to a computer, the bin uses a camera to tell the kind of the waste it get and sorts it into plastic, paper, glass, or other kinds. To make sure the bin can sort waste correctly, the team tested everyting in the school shop and took at least 500 pictures of each one. 

③The idea of the smart bin was born two years ago, when the students were in Grade Ten. At that time, people from the city crowded into their village because of the COVID-19. They left behind a lot of rubbish and caused more pollution. 

④"All the bins were full, and there was even rubbish on the mountain, " the students re- called, "Every weekend, we had to join the villagers in picking up the waste. "

⑤The students decided to develop a special recycling bin that would encourage people to protect the environment. Although school ended at 2 pm, the team would continue to work on their invention until 6 or 7 pm at school. Even when their school was closed last year, they would still meet and work together online. 

⑥"Our bin is now in its third generation(代). Before graduation, we hope it can be widely used in the city. " The students said, "Then it will be easier than ever for people to recycle and protect our environment. "
