Sandwiches are delicious, but do you know how the first sandwich came? An English earl(伯爵)called John Montagu made it three hundred years ago. Montagu was interested in card games. He would play these games with his friends for a long time. He found it too boring to stop his games for meals.

One day, in the middle of a game, Montagu was served a meal of sliced meat with bread. At that time, Montagu was playing the game that needed its players to cover one card over another. As Montagu looked at both the game and his food, an idea came to his mind.

He took a piece of bread, put a piece of meat on it and covered that with another piece of bread. Then Montagu could play cards with one hand and eat his meal with another.

Montagu's friends called the new meal sandwich because Montagu's full title was “the Earl of Sandwich”.

举一反三
In life, people come across many experiences, which they remember all their lives. I had a similar experience, too.
It was the day of my last paper of the final exam. My uncle had invited me to spend my vacation with him. I was especially excited about the invitation that my uncle had given me to stay with him for a few days in Cambridge.
On that day we got into our classroom. The teacher quickly handed out the paper. The exam would last two hours and some of the expected questions came. I finished it almost forty-five minutes earlier. But since it was a rule not to collect the paper before the allotted(规定的)time. I had to sit till the teacher collected the paper. I checked my paper twice and corrected some of the mistakes in it. I started thinking about the place my friends and I had planned to go to after the exam. The time seemed to be endless. So I thought of drawing something on the paper and turned it overleaf. I was shocked to see that the page which I had supposed to be blank had four more questions on it which carried 20 marks and would take at least half an hour to complete. There were only 10 minutes left. I was so nervous that I could hardly write anything. They were the sub-questions(小题)of the last question. Suddenly our physics teacher came in and told all of us that in the last question, out of 6 sub-questions only 2 had to be solved. I felt very relieved.
From then on, I realized that my anxiousness and excitement could have cost me to lose 20 marks and decided never to make such a mistake again.

A myth(荒诞的说法) is something that is not right, but many people believe. There are a lot of myths about the human brain (大脑).

One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we' ll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it's absolutely not true! The truth is that although we don't know everything about the human brain, we know that each part of plays an important function. Modern scientists think the"10 percent myth" silly(愚蠢的).

The other most popular myth is about being" right brained" or" left brained". According to this myth, people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it's also wrong. In 2013, a study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use both sides of our brains equally(相等地).

It's true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no fact that creative people use the right side more, or that scientific people use the left side more.

We' ve talked about myth, so let's look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain feels no pain. Second, about 75 percent of the brain is made of water. It's also the fattest organ in your body. Here's another interesting fact about the brain. Around the time you turn 18 years old, it stops growing.
