On a Friday night, a poor young violinist was playing his violin at the entrance （人口）of the subway station. The music was so great that people put some money into his hat.

The next day, the violinist came to the entrance again. He put down his hat as usual. Beside the hat was a piece of paper with some words on it:"A George Sang has put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Welcome to claim(认领)if．"After a while a man named George Sang ran here quickly and got back his important thing.

    The important thing was a lottery ticket(彩票). Sang bought it and won a prize of $500, 000. But when he gave $50 to the violinist for his wonderful music, he threw the lottery ticket, too. The violinist was a college student. That morning, he was going to Vienna for his education. However, when he found the ticket, he canceled the flight and returned to the entrance.

    He said, "Although I don't have much money, I live happily. If I lose honesty (诚实），1 won't be happy forever."

    When Susan Chen left high school, she want to go to university. Unfortunately, her father was quite poor,and a university education cost a lot of money.

    Take the entrance examination, she didn't score very high marks, but she scored enough, and was offered a place at the university.

    “I'm very proud of you, Susan,” her father said, “I must find the money for a university education for you somehow.”

“But how ,Dad?” Susan asked.

  “Well, I can sell my car and work a lot of overtime, I can even work at two jobs if necessary. One during the day and one at night.”

   “You're a generous father” Susan said.

“Your future is worth the sacrifice,”he told her.The next day he sold his car and asked his boss to give him three hours overtime every day.This meant walking to work and working 12 hours a day, seven days a week, but he didn't complain. His daughter's education was worth it.

A year passed, Susan took her first-year examination. When the results were announced, she ran home to tell her father the news. “Dad”she said, “I've got my examination results, you'll be pleased,”“You've passed”he exclaimed ,“guess what? I've got the third place and won the scholarship. You can have your car back and stop working so hard.”

    My stay in Thailand has certainly been the experience of my life．

    Life is busy and exciting．Bangkok is just like any other big city with a population of 10  million and heavy traffic．I'm very lucky because my host family is in a nice quiet area outside the city．There are Mr. and Mrs. Phairat, their son Sanan, who is 18, the daughter Chinda, who is 16, and Grandpa and Grandma．

    I go to an international school with Sanan and Chinda．The school teaches about 70 percent in English，and 30 percent in Thai. I've learned some spoken language，but Thai writing is very difficult．The cooking lesson is my favourite．I'm learning all about Thai food and culture People don't use chopsticks here，but spoons and forks．When I come back，I'm going to cook you a real Thai meal．

    Last weekend we visited some temples．We also drove to Pattaya beach near Bangkok．I thought it was great，but Sanan and Chinda say that next month they're taking me to Phuket  Island，where the beaches are even more beautiful．The month after next，we're going to travel to Mr．Phairat's hometown in the north of Thailand．The Phairats own land there，and they have two elephants．I'm going to ride those elephants — and even wash them．Sanan and  Chinda say it's really fun．I'm amazed by everything in this country，especially by the elephants．Elephants are an  important pan of Thai culture and way of life．They have been a traditional symbol(象征)of Thailand for many years in times of war and peace．In the seventh century，a Thai king trained 20,000 elephants for battle．

    Mr. Smith likes all kinds of delicious food, and he often has dinner out with his friends. Now Mr. Smith is getting fatter and fatter. He can seldom go upstairs(楼上)at home and has to sleep downstairs. When he walks or does some housework, he often feels uncomfortable(不舒服的).He is very worried. So he goes to see a doctor.

    "______________," says the doctor, "and your health will be better!" But it is difficult for Mr. Smith to do it. He doesn't want to listen to the doctor. A few months later, he finds something wrong with his heart. He is afraid. Now he thinks he must do as the doctor says. When he go to see the doctor again, the doctor tells Mr. Smith it is a little late. And he has to be in hospital.

    "If you don't want to die, you must lose weight, Sir," says the doctor.

"To move your head from one side(边)to the other side when your friends ask you to have dinner out!"
