My friend Alan did not have a rich family. He did not have much money. Sometimes Alan 1 had to accept money and gifts from his family and friends. But do not get me 2. He was not the kind of person who never 3 the money he should. He was always very 4 with the money he spent.

    A few years ago, he won the lottery (中了彩票) and got a huge 5 of money. He was very excited. It changed his life. The 6thing he did was to buy a very expensive new car.     I admit (承认) I do feel  14 for my friend. He had enough money to live like a king. 15, he is back to living a hard life. He was wise about small things, but not about important things.

Some people have a very poor sense （感觉） of direction （方向） , Unluckily, I am one of them, I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.

When I was a little girl, I never dared （敢） to ask strangers the way. And so I used to walk around in circles （圈） and hope that by chance （偶然地） I would get to the place I was going to.

Now, I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid（避免） giving people wrong directions. If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere, I would say, "Sorry, I am a stranger here."

Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building, I gave him my usual reply. But when I walked on only a few steps （步） , I realized that he asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing （仓促） to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting. When I got to my office, the secretary( 秘书） showed in( 领 ……进来） the man who asked me for directions. Imagine how embarrassed I was and how surprised he was when we saw each other.

It was a Saturday afternoon. Mr. Green was reading a newspaper when he heard his 1 crying in the next room. He 2 to her and asked, "What happened 3 you, my dear?"

"Oh, Dad!" his daughter 4 , "My head hurts! Send for a doctor. Hurry up!" Mrs. Green was out at that moment and 5 was wrong with the telephone. Mr. Green had to go to a hospital 6 . Bad luck! That day all the hospitals in the town were 7 . Mr. Green didn't know where to go. Just then a friend of his saw him and asked, "What is the 8 ?"

Mr. Green told his friend. The man said, "9 go to Mr. Black? He can help you."

Mr. Green remembered his friend Mr. Black was a good 10 . He hurried (匆忙) to Mr. Black.

When he 11 there, Mr. and Mrs. Black were having their dinner. The doctor asked Mr. Green to drink with him. He was 12 and sat at the table. After that they began to chat (聊天). And when Mrs. Black asked, "13 are your wife and daughter?" "They're fine, thank…" Mr. Green 14 at once—he remembered his daughter was 15 a doctor at home.

Justin and Mary were on holiday at their uncle's house near a lake, but they woke up early. The night before, Uncle Thomas told them a1 about the Foggy Figure that haunts (以鬼魂形式出现) the lake. Justin and Mary wanted to see the Foggy Figure before their holiday was over.

It was only 5:00 am. Justin walked out and Mary2 him out of the door. It was foggy and 3 to see anything.

"Do you believe the story?" Mary asked. She had a4 that Uncle Thomas' story was not real.

"I think it is real," Justin said. "Mom and Dad will be really5 if we go out on the lake alone in this fog."

Justin and Mary climbed into the boat and sat together. Both of them felt 7 now. They looked around, and suddenly Mary shouted, "The Foggy Figure!" It was sitting in the8 with them!

Justin and Mary felt afraid, but then they heard a laugh. Justin 9 the Foggy Figure. "Uncle Thomas?"

"I knew that story would get you two out of bed 10 enough to take a boat ride with me," Uncle Thomas said.

As a little girl when I heard my sister talk about her life-changing term abroad in Paris, it became my goal to visit it one day. When my daily life in New Jersey seemed boring, I often 1 about walking around the streets of Paris. Luckily, with our financial (财务的) situation2 , European travel became a reality. 

Travelling to a European country with my3  was exciting, but it would not be complete without facing problems and figuring them out. 

We had just started to get4  familiar (熟悉的) with the Paris subway system. Since using it was very difficult, we were walking slowly until we5 the subway was about to leave. As soon as I6 , the doors shut with my mom on the other side. I did not have my cell phone, neither of us could speak a word of7  , and we had no idea how to connect each other. My mom and I, who were both8  , began to knock heavily on the doors. Suddenly, a man with a very puzzled look on his face walked over to the doors and simply9 them. My mom stepped on and we hugged10  we just met each other for the first time in years. A huge sense of11  washed over us. 

12 , my mom and I were able to find all those tourist places we wanted to go. We began to explore the neighborhood we were staying in, such as finding our favorite breakfast café13  walking to museums. The trip to Paris was not just14  because of the beautiful clothes or the sidewalk cafés, but it also taught me it is okay to run into15  when trying to explore an unfamiliar area, and if you keep working, you will improve. 

This is my uncle's farm. It's a big farm.

He has many kinds of animals. Look at the horses. They are white. How many horses can you see? I can see twelve. Does he have cows? Yes, he has. He has ten black and white cows. He has fifteen rabbits, too. They are brown. Look! What are under the big tree? Oh, they are baby chickens. The chickens are yellow. Are those ducks? No, they aren't. They are geese. The geese are white. Do you like sheep? He has eleven white sheep, too. What's that over there ? It's a black dog. I like it.

What else can you see on the farm? I can see apple trees, tomato and potato plants and flowers.
