From the Other Side

Lara and Tara are twins. They look like each other, but they are very different in everything else. For example, hot food is Lara's favorite, and Tara has a sweet choice.

However, this isn't the problem with the twin girls. They always argues that the opposite one was wrong. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, while Tara thought mornings were fresh and it was difficult to stay up till midnight.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} To put an end to their fights, their parents decided to create a small drama. They wanted the girls to understand that they were both correct from their own point of view. Their parents covered the girl's eyes with black ribbons (带、条), and brought them to the dining room. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Lara was asked to stand on one side of the board and Tara on the other. They couldn't see the other side of it. When the ribbons were taken away, they were surprised to see a huge board between them.

Now, their father asked Lara, "What's the color of the board?" She replied, "It's black!" {#blank#}4{#/blank#} She replied, "It's white!" The two girls began to argue again. While Lara was confident it was black, Tara was sure it was white. Then, they were asked to exchange (交换) their places. They couldn't believe their eyes. Tara, who insisted (坚持) it was a white board, saw a black one. Similarly, Lara, who argued the board was black, was surprised to see a white one. They understood that each of them was right in her own view. Most of us are like Lara and Tara. We are right most times, but insist that others are wrong!

Last Sunday, I went to Beihai Park with my friends. We {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(planned/were planning) to meet at the gate of the park, but I was late. When I got to the park, they {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(played / were playing) happily there.Jane was playing the guitar and Maria  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(flew / was flying ) a kite. Michael and some other boys {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(played / were playing) games. I said hello to them and  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(joined/ was joining) them at once. After lunch, we {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (sang/ were singing) and danced to music. Wang Wei {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(took / was taking) many photos while we were playing together. When we got back home, we all {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(felt/ were feeling) tired but happy. What a wonderful day!

Since Dmitry started to live in the countryside last August，the 32﹣year﹣old has created hundreds of video clips that record the relaxing lifestyle in Hengzhang village，Lishui city. "The rice is grown in the fields together with fish（农业的）products，" said Dmitry，Dmitry also enjoys working with farmers in the fields，doing activities such as planting vegetables and feeding chickens.

Because of the epidemic，the sales of local agricultural products had dropped rapidly，so Dmitry volunteered to help sell the products in his videos. In a few months，000 kilograms of oranges，4，000 kilograms of dried sweet potatoes and 300 kilograms of honey had been sold.

Dmitry loves his country life. " In the countryside，you can enjoy yourself in the traditional way of life and understand this country better，"he says.

Sam had to take care of his little sister Julie by himself. Their parents passed away long ago. 

One day, Sam woke up1 three in the morning as usual. When Julie was sleeping alone, Sam went out 2 newspapers. When he found an old man sitting in front of their house, Sam was so surprised that he stopped to look at him closely. It was 3 icy morning and he looked very cold. 

The poor old man didn't have anything to cover4 body with. Sam went into his house to get the old man a blanket(毯子). However, there were no extra blankets, so Sam thought hard and took his 5 coat. Sam wrote a short note. "Sir, I found you sleeping in front of my house. This is an old coat of my dad's. I hope it fits you well. " 6 then he left. When he came back, both the man and the coat were gone. Sam thought that it was 7 thing he could do with his dad's coat. 

That afternoon when Sam got home, Julie and the old man8 in front of the house, and Julie shouted to Sam9 ，"Brother！He's our grandfather！"The grandfather smiled and said, "Sam，thank you for giving me the coat and letting me know 10 good my grandson is. "

A blind (失明的) man had a newspaper stand (货摊). It was next to a bank. On the other side of the street, there was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} school.

One day, the bank was closed. Some men broke in and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(take) a lot of money from the bank. Then, a police officer came{#blank#}3{#/blank#} asked two questions at the school: Did anyone see who did it and what were they like? No one was able {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (answer). Then the officer heard a voice saying  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (slow), "I know." The blind man stood in the doorway. "Three men took the money," he said. "I could tell by hearing {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(they) steps (脚步). They ran down the street." "I wish someone could tell me {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they looked like," the officer said. "One man had red hair," said the man. "He could not run fast, because one of the other men shouted at him to hurry while they {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(take) the money. He called him Red."

Two {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(week) went by. The police caught the three men. One had something wrong {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his leg. He had red hair. The man was right though he couldn't see at all. 

Hu Zhuomin is a young man living in Shanghai. He is outgoing and can speak eight languages, such{#blank#}1{#/blank#} English, Japanese, German and French. In 2022, he helped lots of foreigners when the city was under lockdown (在封锁中) {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of COVID-19.

Many foreigners living in Shanghai worried a lot when the city went into lockdown. They were {#blank#}3{#/blank#}afraid that they had no idea what to do. Hu was always there to {#blank#}4{#/blank#}them out. The foreigners were very thankful to have him at that difficult time.

Hu is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} in language. Many people think it is boring to learn a language, but he doesn't {#blank#}6{#/blank#}so. He learnt every language out of interest. To learn the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}well, he took many courses and read lots of books. He also spent a lot of free {#blank#}8{#/blank#}watching foreign TV programs. He once got a job abroad (在国外) and worked with people from different countries. In this way, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} improved his speaking a lot.

Hu says he {#blank#}10{#/blank#} ever stops learning. Now, he is studying Russian. He just would like to learn more, have more fun and help more people in need.
