It is easy for many people to catch a cold in the springtime or fall. It makes us wonder if scientists can send a man to the moon, why can't they find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are actually different cold viruses out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn't a cure for each one.

When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it Blood rushes to your nose and causes a block in it. You feel terrible because you can't breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature goes up and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting into your cells. You may feel very uncomfortable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.

Different people do different things to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might have chicken soup to help them get over the cold. Some people take hot baths. Other people take medicine to stop different symptoms(症状)of colds.

There is one interesting thing to note一some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn't have a way to fight it and kill it Bodies can do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this:

It takes about one week to get over a cold if you don't take medicine, but it takes only seven days to get over a cold if you take medicine.

Recently, I've found many old photos of Mom, Dad, David, me and my first dog Coco. They meant a lot to me. I wondered how to keep them forever. Luckily, my son used a new app to clear up and improve some of the old photos. Looking at them brought back so many loving and happy memories. I even used one as my computer screen saver(屏保).

It is a picture of me sitting in my favorite chair,across from the wood stove(炉子) next to a bookcase full of old books. I am wearing my special Snoopy shirt and hugging Coco. There is a big smile on my face and a joyful shining light in my eyes. It was how I spent a lot of my winter afternoons as a girl, hugging Coco and reading an old book.

It is surprising how 60 years later that girl still lives inside of me. I still love comfortable chairs, warm stoves, Snoopy clothes, hugging dogs and reading books on cold winter days. But when I look in the mirror now, all I see is a thin face, grey hair, and lots of wrinkles(皱纹). The only thing that hasn't completely changed is the eyes. They are hiding behind glasses now and full of wisdom(智慧) given by ages. But they still have that same joyful shining light.

Looking at the little girl smiling at me from the computer screen and that 66-year-old woman looking back at me in the mirror can be a little bit strange at times. They look so different. However, they are both me. We can't stop getting older, but we can remain both joyful and young at heart forever.

The Double Seventh Festival, also known as the Qixi Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival. Here is a beautiful story 1 it.

 Long long ago, there was a young man 2 Niulang. One day, he met a beautiful girl— Zhinu, the Goddess's seventh daughter. She had just run away from the boring heaven(天国) to look for fun on Earth. Zhinu soon fell in love with Niulan g and they got married without 3 the Goddess. They lived a happy life on Earth and gave birth to two children. Unluckily, the Goddess soon found out the fact and 4 Zhinu to return to heaven. With the help of his magic cow. Niulan g flew to heaven with his children to look for his wife. The Goddess discovered this and was very 5 . Taking out her hairpin(发簪), the Goddess created a wide river in the sky to separate(分开) the two 6 . From then on, Niulan g and Zhinu had to live 7 on the two sides of the river. However, their true love touched all the magpies(喜鹊) in the world,8 once a year tens of thousands of magpies would fly up to heaven to make a bridge(" the bridge of magpies") for the couple to meet each other.

 At last, the Goddess allowed 9 to meet each year on the 7th day of the 7th Chinese lunar month. That's 10 the Double Seventh Festival started. Today, it is a great day for Chinese young people to express their love.

My neighbour, Mr Brown, is a very old man. His children live in a different city, so he lives{#blank#}1{#/blank#} most of the time. Mr Brown has a small dog, but for him it is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to take the dog for walks because he is too old. The dog needs to go outside twice every day.

I want to help Mr Brown. Now, every morning {#blank#}3{#/blank#} I go to my school, I go to Mr Brown's house. I take his dog for a short {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. The dog is always happy and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} jo go out. After that, I bring the dog back home and then I get ready {#blank#}6{#/blank#} school.

 In the afternoon, when I come back from school. I have more time. I {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the dog to the park. We play ball games for a long time, and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} never gets tired.

 Mr Brown often thanks me for my {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. He is always kind and gives me some sweets when I see him. The small dog also {#blank#}10{#/blank#} happy. It's good to help Mr Brown and his dog. I like making them happy.

As a little girl when I heard my sister talk about her life-changing term abroad in Paris, it became my goal to visit it one day. When my daily life in New Jersey seemed boring, I often 1 about walking around the streets of Paris. Luckily, with our financial (财务的) situation2 , European travel became a reality. 

Travelling to a European country with my3  was exciting, but it would not be complete without facing problems and figuring them out. 

We had just started to get4  familiar (熟悉的) with the Paris subway system. Since using it was very difficult, we were walking slowly until we5 the subway was about to leave. As soon as I6 , the doors shut with my mom on the other side. I did not have my cell phone, neither of us could speak a word of7  , and we had no idea how to connect each other. My mom and I, who were both8  , began to knock heavily on the doors. Suddenly, a man with a very puzzled look on his face walked over to the doors and simply9 them. My mom stepped on and we hugged10  we just met each other for the first time in years. A huge sense of11  washed over us. 

12 , my mom and I were able to find all those tourist places we wanted to go. We began to explore the neighborhood we were staying in, such as finding our favorite breakfast café13  walking to museums. The trip to Paris was not just14  because of the beautiful clothes or the sidewalk cafés, but it also taught me it is okay to run into15  when trying to explore an unfamiliar area, and if you keep working, you will improve. 

 When Pollyanna woke up, sunlight was through the window of her room. She 1 it was a perfectly wonderful sunny Saturday and she had so many things that she wanted to do.2 , she heard a rapping(敲打) on the door. "Wake up, Pollyanna! It' s Friday— you' ll be late for 3 !"

 Many children would feel 4 to find out it was a school day, but not Pollyanna! Her father had taught her how to 5 the Glad Game when she was little. The goal of the game was to look on the 6 side of everything. She had played it ever since, 7 it worked every time!" Oh, that' s good news!I' m8 school now!" she laughed as she jumped out of bed. "I' ll see my friends and learn all the new things!"

 Pollyanna ran through the kitchen, took her lunch box and gave Nancy a kiss as she did so. "No time for breakfast!" she said to herself. "But a healthy appetite(食欲) will make my lunch taste 9 !"

 Pollyanna rushed out and ran down the hill as fast as she could. As she went 10 Mr. Pendleton's house, the old man waved to her and said, "Good morning!" Pollyanna smiled and turned to wave back but tripped by stones. Before she knew what was 11 , she found herself in a ditch(沟)!

 The girl's dress was a bit dirty, but she was 12 smiling. The old man couldn't help but laugh. "Look what I found in the ditch!" she was holding up some wild flowers and said. "They will make a perfect gift for my 13 !"

 Pollyanna made it to the classroom just as the bell rang. Her dress and her hair were in a mess, but when she gave the flowers to the teacher,14 laughed and cheered. 

 That was the15 thing about the Glad Game, thought Pollyanna. When you play it, you spread happiness to others as well!
