Many children feel that the most important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that family members don't know them as well as their friends. In large families, it is quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then can go to their friends for some ideas. 

It is very important for children to have one or more good friends. Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking on the phone with them. This communication is very important to children's growth, because friends can discuss something, but it is difficult to discuss it with family members. However, most parents like to choose friends for their children to meet their good friends.

Taipan Village is a small, mountainous community in the Guizhou Province of Southwestern China. What's special is that this village, home to fewer than 1,200 residents, has become a hot topic on the internet due to its vibrant(活力满满的) basketball competition, often referred to as "Cun BA. "

Since 2020, local farmers in the area have found a fun way to celebrate their successful harvests(丰收): basketball games. The rules of "Cun BA" require that players be local male farmers aged 18 to 35. This means you'll see people with all kinds of day jobs like raising cows, growing wheat, and selling vegetables competing on different teams. These farmers started their own basketball league, comprising a total of 198 teams.

These games attract a big crowd. Many basketball fans travel long distances just to watch and cheer for their favorite teams. Even people originally from Taipan Village who now work elsewhere make the trip back home to enjoy the games. Over the 45-day competition period, Taipan Village welcomes more than 500,000 visitors, which creates new opportunities for sports and tourism. On the first day of the tournament(联赛), they made over 300,000 yuan in sales from goods like mascot toys, basketballs, and team uniforms. It's clear that basketball is making a big difference in improving this once-poor village.

Let's Protect Animals in Danger

Animals are our friends. I'm sure most of us like animals. But now many animals are in danger. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} example, the number of pandas, tigers and elephants is getting smaller. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} are these animals in danger? One reason is that people kill these animals for their meat and fur {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(get) money. Many wild animals lose their {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(life) every year. Another reason is that people are taking away their homes. People cut down plenty of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(tree). Many wild animals don't have a safe place {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(live). That's because villages and farms {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(get) bigger and people are taking away their land and forests now. 

So what can we do {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(protect) animals? First, we must stop people from killing animals in the wild. Second, we should plant more trees and protect the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(animal) homes. Third, we can raise some money {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(save) the animals in danger. Animals are our friends. Helping animals is helping ourselves. So let's take steps to protect animals from now on!

Parkville was a quiet village with fields and hills. It was near Arnwick, a city with a population of about 10,000, 000. The government built {#blank#}1{#/blank#} outside the centre for people. Soon, Parkville became part of Arnwick, and the population of Arnwick became even{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. It is very crowded, and rubbish is also a problem. There is also a lot of traffic and pollution. Luckily, the government is making a great effort to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Arnwick's problems with better public services. The government is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} air pollution too. And cities should try to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a more enjoyable living environment. 

 How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?

 Shyness means feeling worried or afraid when you' re around other people. Experts(专家) have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention(注意). Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences(经历).

It's OK if it takes you a minute to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It's just a problem of how much.

 Most people have red faces and talk in broken language when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won't go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay for their food. Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they hardly go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.

 If shyness doesn't stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn't a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.

 You see, being shy isn't all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There's nothing to be afraid of.
