What is Competitive Eating? It's a game where people try to eat a lot of food very quickly. There are different types of food, like pizza and ice cream.
The Big Hot Dog Contest Every year, on July 4th, there's a big contest in New York where people eat hot dogs. It started because some people wanted to show they loved America by eating lots of hot dogs. The first winner ate 13 hot dogs in 12 minutes. The Best Eaters Joey Chestnut can eat 40 hot dogs in 10 minutes. He's the best right now. Before him, Takeru Kobayashi was the best. He's not very big, but he can eat a lot of different foods very fast.
Is It Good or Bad? Some people think it's not good because it's not healthy and some people don't have enough food. But the people who do it think it's just a sport, like running or swimming. They see themselves as sports players.
The Best Beef Stew Ingredients: ·salt and pepper to taste ·water ·3 teaspoons olive oil ·2 pounds of potatoes ·1 cup flour ·3 celery ribs ·2 pounds of beef ·3 sliced carrots ·1 cup low-fat beef broth ·2 pounds of onions
Preparation: 1. Heat olive oil in a big pot. Put flour（面粉）, salt, and pepper on a plate. Cover half of the beef with the flour. 2. Cook the coated beef in the pot over medium—high heat for about 6 minutes until brown. Keep aside once browned. Repeat with the rest of the beef. 3. Pour in the beef broth（牛肉汁）and put all the beef back in the pot. Add enough water to cover the meat. Boil, then reduce to simmer（文火炖）. Cook until beef is soft, around 1 hour. 4. Add vegetables and simmer until beef and vegetables are soft, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Total Time: 2 hours 45 minutes Amount: For 6 people *You can simmer the stew in a slow cooker on high for 4 hours. You will still need to brown the beef as directed above. |
