When parents send their children to school，often they don't know what happens day to day. Parents depend on what their children tell them about they are doing and what they are learning. Generally schools will host parent-teacher meeting at least twice a year. Parent-teacher meetings are short meetings between parents and their children's teacher. Usually they are held when teachers give put a student's grades for the term. The parent-teacher meetings give teachers a chance to let parents know how their child is doing. A teacher will let a parent know the student's advantages and bring to the parent's attention any problems with grades or behavior(行为).The meetings also offer parents the chance to ask questions and see what their child is learning.

    Most children do not go along with their parents to the meetings. This allows both the parent and teacher to talk honestly about the child's progress without making the child feel bad. Usually a teacher will offer advice to the parent on how to support their child's education.

Jia Ling, a famous Chinese director, shines brightly in the world of cinema. With her understanding of human feelings getting much{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(深的) she has created two wonderful films that make people quite interested. Both of them appeared in{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(二月). The first one is Hi, Mom. The second one is You Only Live Once. The lead character, Le Ying, was once a fat girl. Then she{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(保持)exercising for a year and finally turned into a strong boxer. The story reminds us of our own changes.

Throwing tomatoes — Spain

Spain takes "tomato fights" to a whole new level. But the tomatoes are thrown, not eaten. The festival takes place on the last Wednesday in August. Trucks carry tomatoes into the square. People rush to the tomatoes and throw them into the crowd. 

Rolling cheese — England

This festival is celebrated on the last Monday in May. It takes place on Cooper's Hill. A large wheel of cheese is rolled down Cooper's Hill. In fact, the festival is a race where people run down the hill after the rolling cheese. The first person to cross the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. 

Burning man — The United States

The Burning Man Festival lasts a week. It falls on the first Monday in September in America. The festival takes place in the Black Rock Desert. The best part of the festival is the burning of a large sculpture (雕塑) of a man. 

Pouring water — Thailand

The Songkran Festival is the celebration of the New Year in Thailand. Thailand celebrates the New Year from April 13th to April 15th. Thai people run after each other and pour water. 

Songkran is one of the most important reasons why foreigners travel to the beautiful land. 

Enjoying snow & Ice — China

Snow & Ice Festival is held in Harbin in China from Jan. 5th to Feb 5th every year. It lasts a month. The Harbin festival is the largest snow and ice festival in the world. There are all kinds of full-size buildings made of ice and many ice and snow sports activities. All of the people in Harbin do ice and snow activities. 

As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize. They can also be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in you class. Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream come true?

Andrew Matthews, an Australian writer, tells us that making our dreams real is life's biggest challenge. You may think you're not very good at some school subjects, or it is impossible for you to become a writer. These kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dreams.

In fact, everyone can make his dream come true. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don't let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, many small dreams.

Also you must never give up your dream. There will be barriers on the way to your dreams. Don't be afraid of them. They are not so hard. The biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Turn off the TV. Studying will help you get better exam grades. Don't buy ice-cream. Saving five yuan means you can buy a new book.

As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.

I like my life in Hangzhou, the capital city of East China's Zhejiang Province, though it is very different from that in Britain. Now I'm very excited because I'm leaving for the Banshan neighbourhood (社区) with my classmates to celebrate the Beginning of Summer in an hour. 

My Chinese teacher Mrs Hu tells me the Beginning of Summer is one of the Chinese 24 solar terms (节气), and it is usually on a day between May 5th and 7th every year. It means the end of spring and the start of summer. 

Two days ago, Mrs Hu asked us to look for some information about how people in the Banshan neighbourhood celebrate the Beginning of Summer. Let me show you. 

Having a parade(游行)  ▲  People in the parade usually wear Hanfu, a kind of traditional Chinese clothing. After the parade, local people and visitors often have folk activities (民俗活动) in the square. 

Cooking wild rice According to tradition, on that day, children will go out into the wild in groups to pick beans, catch fish in rivers and ask for rice and meat from other families. Then they cook a rice meal by themselves in some corners of a wild field. This fun activity is known as "cooking wild rice". 

Eating black rice Several days before the Beginning of Summer, people in the Banshan neighbourhood begin cooking black rice by using rice and the juice of fresh- picked sea bilberry leaves (刚摘的海越桔叶). People in Hangzhou also believe their kids will be strong and healthy all summer if they eat black rice at the start of summer.
