When parents send their children to school, often they don't know what happens day to day. Parents depend on what their children tell them about they are doing and what they are learning. Each country has its own "art of living". For example, the word "niksen" shows how Dutch people fight stress and tiredness in a fast-paced lifestyle.

The term "niksen" comes from the Dutch word "niks"which refers to"nothing". In practice, "niksen"could be as simple as just relaxing, looking at your surroundings or listening to music- as long as it's without purpose and not done in order to achieve something. Think "simply sitting in a chair or looking out of the window,"says Ruut Veenhoven, a professor at Erasmus University who studies happiness.

"Niksen" sounds contrary to the advice that we were all given as kids. Nowadays, we're always told to stay bus y and work harder than everyone else. But "niksen" is against that attitude. It offers the chance to "deliciously do nothing", as Carolien Hamming told Time. She thinks that "niksen" is very important to staying healthy, since it's a form of men tal relaxation and healing. Just like a wild animal lying in wait for their food,"niksen" seems to be a natural state of being.

For some people,"niksen" can mean more than just men tal relaxation. It's also a way to imagine new ideas or plans. As an early adopter of "niksen", Jenny Holden, adds it to her daily lunch breaks."Within 10minutes of doing nothing-just staring and listening to myself-my head began to clear and pick out my work and home to-do lists", she told the Metro UK. However, for many, doing nothing isn't as simple as it sounds.In fact, it can be somewhat challenging to sit still and stare out a window.

Above all, "niksen" is a suggestion for balancing work and rest. As Dutch-bom writer Ogla Mecking wrote in Whoolly Magazine,"niksen" is the full enjoyment of life's breaks".

Everyone is encouraged to have your "niksen" moments. They give you the strength to face everyday challenges.

One autumn afternoon, Maddie was moving her towel at the window."I wish I didn't have to wash these windows," she said 1 ."I think washing windows is the worst housework in the world."

As she washed her towel into the buckets (水桶) again, Maddie saw Mr. Smith, her 2 . standing in his front yard (院子) next door. He looked so 3 .

" Mr. Smith," Maddie called," How are you?"

" Well, Maddie, but I have to rake(用耙子耙) these leaves (叶子)," Mr. Smith said." Raking is the 4 housework for me."

"I' ll ra ke them for you," Maddie said happily."I5 building piles(堆) of fallen yello w leaves."

" You would do that for me, Maddie?" Mr. Smith asked.

" Sure," Maddie answered."I'd be glad to 6 . I' ll finish washing my windows later."

" Thank you," Mr. Smith said, handing Maddie the rake."I really 7 the help." Then he went away.

Maddie raked and finally got all of her small leaves together into one high mountain." It's time to wash my 8 ." she thought. But when she reached her yard, she 9 .

Tom, her neighbor, was standing there, facing the living room window." What is Tom doing?" she thought.

" He's 10 the windows!" she suddenly realized.

" Tom, why are you washing 11 windows?" Maddie asked.

Hearing Maddie's loud voice, Tom was 12 . He turned around and said," Oh, after I came back, I saw Mr. Smith washing my clothes in my yard. I asked him what I could do for him. Then he remembered you didn't finish cleaning your windows 13 you were raking his leaves."

" And I", Tom said," love to wash windows,"

Maddie laughed."I guess there's 14 for everyone," she said." Thank you for doing my windows, Tom. The housework chain(联手) is really 15 !"

There was magic in the secret garden in spring. First everything turned green. Then the green changed to colors— blue, purple and red. There were flowers everywhere. The roses— the roses! From small buds they grew into large flowers and filled the air with pleasant smell.

Colin was sick and thought that he would die soon. But he watched all the changes as they happened in spring. Dickon, Colin's friend, pushed Colin on wheelchair to the garden every morning and Colin spent the day there. Sometimes he sat on the grass watching the insects. He once watched a mouse digging a hole. He learnt a lot of things about the ways of these insects and animals.

One morning Dickon pushed Colin to the secret garden as usual. Mary, Colin's cousin, and Ben Weatherstaff, the gardener, were there too. Colin said, "I want to tell you something very important. "

"I believe that there is magic in everything, " continued Colin. "Dickon knows some magic. He charms(迷住)animals and people. Mary also knows a bit of magic because she was born in India. There's magic in the garden, too. I'm going to try and put some in me because I want to be well and strong. Please sing ' Magic is in me!' with me. "

"Magic is in me. Magic is in me. Magic is in all of us. " They started singing.

Then Colin tried to walk on his own. His first step was shaky(摇晃的)and he even fell to the ground. But as he took further steps forward, he soon got used to it and was able to walk smoothly. Although he was slow, he did not fall again.

"I can walk! The magic worked!" he cried.
