Three kinds of bears live in the United States. They are the black bear, the brown bear, and the polar bear.

    Black Bears

Black bears are the most common of the three. They live in forests in many different parts of the country. Even though they are known as black bears, they are not always black. Sometimes they are brown or tan (黄褐色的) , and a few are even white. Black bears are usually about five or six feet long, and they are the smallest of the three kinds of bears.

    Brown Bears

Brown bears are found in a few western states and in Alaska. They live in forests as well as in open areas called the tundra (冻土地带). Brown bears are usually light or dark brown and can grow to be very large. In fact, some are eight feet long!

    Polar Bears

Polar bears can be found in Alaska. It is in a cold area near the North Pole called the Arctic and there are no trees there. Polar bears are white, and they are the largest of the three kinds of ears. They are a little longer and usually heavier than the brown bear.

    Other Interesting Things

Bears eat different things. Black and brown bears eat fish and other kinds of meat, roots, and berries. Polar bears eat fish, other meat, seaweed, and grass. All three types of bears eat as much food as they can find just before winter. Then during the cold months, they sleep in caves or hollowed-out trees called "dens". They keep them warm. Winter is when the female bears have their babies. All three types of bears have between one and four cubs (幼兽). The cubs are born while the mother bear sleeps!

All people are afraid of bears. However, bears are actually shy. Most bears try to stay away from people, but still, bears can be dangerous at times.

Feel down? Hug a tree! Recently, many Chinese young people have turned to trees to lower (减少) stress. It sounds strange. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

US scientist Edward Wilson pointed out that humans were born to love being around other living things. Human's love for nature is "in our DNA". {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It's also one of the reasons why people love cute pets.

Some scientists have studied why tree-hugging can help with our health. A study in 2021 reported that the activity can create more oxytocin (催产素). {#blank#}3{#/blank#} The higher the level of oxytocin is, the happier we may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can lead to an increase in oxytocin.

Hugging trees also helps cut cortisol (皮质醇) production, which makes us feel better. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} The brain produces more cortisol when the person is worried, angry, or very sad.

Although the activity is helpful to us, it's important to keep in mind that we shouldn't hurt nature while hugging trees. Trees play a valuable role in our environment. Many small living things live in the tree. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} You need to be gentle when hugging trees—just like how you hug a friend!

A. Cortisol is a sign of stress.

B. It's something connected with feelings.

C. It is normal for adults to be stressed out.

D. And they are too small to be seen.

E. Worries can be a heavy weight over our shoulders.

F. However, there's some science behind the act of tree-hugging.

G. His idea helps to explain why people prefer natural views (景色) to city views.

根据短文内容和所给中文提示,在空白处填入单词。

How much have you got the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(知识) of tea culture? Tea is the world's second most popular drink (after water). Drinking tea has many upsides. Now tea is loved by millions from the China to England. from India to Afghanistan.

Tea was{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(发现) in 2727 BC in China. When the ruler Shen Nong was{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(煮沸) water over an open fire, some{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(树叶) from a tea plant fell into the water. Shen Nong then fell in love with the drink, and that is how tea became a common drink in Chinese culture. For centuries, drinking tea is an old{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(传统) in the UK. There's tea for breakfast, tea during break time, tea when visiting a friend's house, tea to wake up or tea to relax.. For Indians, drinking tea is also a huge part of{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(日常) life.

You may feel that math is difficult and boring. Is it possible that you' ve been looking at math in the wrong way? Li Xing, a math professor at Ning Xia University, thinks math can be beautiful and fun. I complete agree with what he said.

Numbers are beautiful

There is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure (测量) the length from your head to your belly button and from your belly button to your feet. The ratio (比例) of these two numbers is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio, which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.

In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. As Li Bai wrote, "My skiff (小船) has left ten thousand mountains far away", "A thousand miles in one day",— all these numbers show how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt.

Curves(曲线) are beautiful

"Sine curves" are beautiful. They go towards the two opposite directions on and on without ever ending. When you look at them, you may feel like standing by the sea and watching the waves slowly moving. "Tangent curve" is like a waterfall, just as Li Bai wrote, "dashing(猛冲) down three thousand feetfrom on high".

Formulas(公式) are beautiful

There are some amazing formulas. In a right-angled triangle (直角三角形), the square of the longest side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. How amazing! Just as Chinese-American mathematician Chern Shingshen said, "Math is fun!"
