In order to know a foreign language thoroughly（彻底地）, four things are necessary. Firstly, we must be able to understand the language when we hear it. Secondly, we must be able to speak it by ourselves correctly, with confidence and without hesitation（犹豫）. Thirdly, we must be able to read the language. Fourthly, we must be able to make up sentences that are grammatically correct. We must know how to put sentences into paragraphs in order to write a good letter or article. 

There is no easy way to succeed in learning a foreign language. A good memory（记忆力）is of much help, but it is not enough to simply remember rules from a grammar book. It is no much use learning long words and their meanings by heart. 

We must learn not only words but also the use of them in sentences. We must learn by using the language. "Learn through using" is a good piece of advice for people to study a new language. Practice is very important. We must practice speaking and writing the language whenever we can.

⑤A further argument against pet ownership is that pets are costly; buying food and maintaining their care is expensive. Finally, the cost of owning one falls on parents, and as a result, children don't fully understand the responsibility of having one.

⑥In short, there are many arguments for and against pet ownership. Pets help to keep children company, fit, and they also help them to learn new responsibilities. However, pets can be dangerous, they require a lot of care, and they cost a lot of money to be taken care of properly.

During the summer holiday, some of you might have spent a lot of time playing video games online. However, you won't be able to do this anymore. On August 30th, the government cut online gaming time for kids in order to stop them from losing themselves in playing online games.

A new notice says that game companies can only offer one hour of service to kids from 8 p. m. to 9 p. m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on official holidays. Service cannot be offered at any other time. The companies must also make sure that users register（注册） and login（登录） with their real names.

Under earlier rules, kids could play online games for 1.5 hours on any day and three hours on holidays. But many parents have called for even stricter rules Xinhua reported.

The new rules quickly caused discussion. Some people support them, while others are surprised at how strict the rules are.

"Kids can hardly control themselves, so they need rules," one person wrote on SinaWeibo.

Others worry about loopholes. "What if kids use their parents' logins?" another person asked.
