You get into bed after a long day and plan to spend a few minutes on your phone before sleeping. However, falling asleep isn't as easy as expected. What's wrong?
According to a new study, your phone may be the problem. Researchers asked 85 kids aged 11 to 14 to wear body cameras for a week, starting from three hours before bedtime. A second camera was placed in their bedrooms to monitor their phone use in bed. The kids also wore a device(设备) to record their sleep.
Researchers found that 99% of the kids used their phones in the two hours before bed, over half used their phones while in bed, and about a third used them after trying to sleep. The results showed that screen time in bed put off kids' sleep by about half an hour and cut down on their total sleep time.
The influence was larger when they played games or used more than one screen.
"While the science guidelines (指南) suggest no screen time in an hour or two before bed, keeping phones out of the bedroom might help you get a better night's sleep," said the lead researcher, Bradley Brosnan.
