Cinyee Chiu, an artist from Taiwan, is always happy to try something new. Her amazing works won lots of prizes. Among them, "24 Solar Terms (节气)" is the most popular.

Ancient Chinese divided a year into 24 parts according to the changes of the weather. It's the 24 solar terms. But not everyone knows them well. Cinyee Chiu put the 24 solar terms in pictures to help people understand them better.

Cinyee turned each solar term into an animal. But these animals are not just animals. You can also find seasonal fruits, vegetables or beautiful flowers on them.

When spring comes, water gets warm and fish start to swim around. So Cinyee chose fish as a symbol of Start of Spring. Also, she drew spring vegetables, Chinese chives (韭菜) on the back of the fish.

White Dew (露珠) falls on about Sept. 8. It shows the beginning of the cool autumn. There are colorful leaves and cooler nights at this time of year. As the temperature falls, white dew is often seen on the grass and trees at night. For White Dew, Cinyee chose a raccoon (浣熊)—a small animal with thick hair. She drew white spots (小圆点) on the raccoon to show dew. And she used the dragon fruit to show the rich colors in autumn.

The young artist really gave the ancient Chinese culture a new look.

Hello, I am Jenny. I'm 13 years old. I live with my parents in a big city. I always study hard on weekdays. My grandparents live on a farm and I often visit them on weekends. On the farm are many kinds of animals, such as cows, sheep, pigs, dogs and chickens. I like to play with them because it can make me relaxed.

One day, I find a little duck on the farm. He has no family or friends, and he often walks alone. He is cute and I call him Tom. I decide to take care of him. After that, I often bring him some fresh fish and play with him. Little by little, the duck becomes friendly to me. Then, on Saturday mornings, when Tom sees me on the farm, he always runs up to me like a little dog. Sometimes he follows(跟着) me into the forest. We sit together and read books. We both feel relaxed. One Saturday evening, my grandfather asks me," Why does the little duck like you so much?"" Oh, because he can feel my love, grandpa."I answer happily.

Carol and Linda took a trip to San Francisco last July. They went there to visit Nick. Nick is a friend from their old neighborhood in Rome. He moved to San Francisco five years ago. They went there by train because they wanted to see more of the United States. 

They arrived in San Francisco in the evening. Nick met them at the train station. They were so delighted to see him. He looked the same as before. They gave him a big hug （拥抱）. The next day, they went sightseeing （观光）. They saw the Golden Gate Bridge. They had lunch at Fisherman's Wharf. At Fisherman's Wharf, they saw the fishing boats come in. The next day, they visited the University of California at Berkeley. Nick teaches music there. Carol and Linda liked the school. They thought that it was very big and very beautiful. 

They saw all of San Francisco before they left. Nick took them everywhere! They went back to New Orleans by plane because they didn't have time to go back by train. Nick was sad （伤心的） to see them go and they were sad to leave. 

All in all, Carol and Linda had a wonderful trip. They traveled （旅行） across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. They visited all of San Francisco. They had a great visit with Nick. They both wanted to go again next summer!

In ancient China, when friends or relatives were separating, they would pick a willow twig（柳条） and give it to the person who was leaving and wished for him {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. In Chinese, the word for "willow" has the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} pronunciation as the word for "stay". 

Many Chinese poets liked writing about willows in their works. One of the most famous {#blank#}3{#/blank#} is A Farewell Song（《送元二使安西》）by Wang Wei. It reads, 

No dust is raised on the road met with morning rain,

The willows by the hotel{#blank#}4{#/blank#} so fresh and green.

I invite you to drink a cup of wine again,

West of the Sunny Pass no more friends will be seen.

Nowadays, willow twigs can also be seen in modern art. There was an amazing {#blank#}5{#/blank#} about willow twigs. 365 people were {#blank#}6{#/blank#} willow twigs in their hands on the green stage. At the same time, an ancient painting of weeping willows appeared on the LED screen. The setting of 365 people stood for 365 days, and the colour green meant the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} of spring. The performance was{#blank#}8{#/blank#} praised by the audience. " I was totally attracted by {#blank#}9{#/blank#} Chinese culture, " one of them said. 

In short, giving a willow twig to a person is not saying goodbye {#blank#}10{#/blank#} asking him to stay. {#blank#}11{#/blank#} is the beauty of Chinese culture.

On Mr. Thomas' last day at school, everybody brought a different kind of delicious finger food to class and put it in the middle of the classroom. They covered the blackboard with farewell messages. When Mr. Thomas showed up, all the students said "Goodbye, dear teacher!" together and promised Mr. Thomas that they would do their best in schoolwork in the future. 

Mr. Thomas was really surprised. And he was really touched. The class, in turn, was glad that they did the right thing. After all, it was the simplest way to show thanks to their favorite teacher.
