【盐仓24秋】外研版(2024)英语九年级上册A本Module 2 Public holidays Unit 3
Dads have Father's Day. Mums have Mother's Day. Kids have Children's Day. But, do our grandparents have a special holiday? Yes, they do!
The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for elderly people in China. The festival is on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. As the Chinese word for nine has the same sound as the word for long, people take the Double Ninth Festival to show their wishes for long life to the old.
There are many traditions for this festival. On that day, families get together and climb mountains for luck and in the hope that elderly people will live much longer. They also drink chrysanthemum wine(菊花酒) and wear a plant called zhuyu to celebrate it. Both chrysanthemum and zhuyu are regarded as clean plants that can clean houses and treat diseases.
Respecting(尊重) the old is shown not only on this special day but also in daily life. For example, when an older person enters a room, everyone stands up. When there are several guests at the table, the host usually introduces them from the oldest to the youngest. When a younger person is giving something to an older person, two hands are used. On a crowded underground or bus, younger people always offer their seats to the old.
It is a traditional virtue(美德) in China to respect elderly people. That's because the Chinese know that elderly people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn from. So, Chinese people are proud of being old. Besides, to respect the elderly people is to respect yourself tomorrow.
Do you ever wish you had more time? Everyone gets 24 hours in a day. But here are some ways to help you use those hours more efficiently (有效率地).
Set priorities (优先级)
Setting priorities is the best way to manage your time exactly. Consider whether your tasks are important or not and find out which one should be done right away.
Make a timetable
Decide what you're going to do at a certain time each day. A well-organized timetable can not only help you improve your working speed but also make you feel less stressed.
Choose a suitable time
Think about the time when you have the most energy during the day. Are you more energetic in the morning or afternoon? Do hard work when you feel good and leave simple one when you are tired.
Make lists
Write down when to do and what to do. I keep two to-do lists: one for aims of today and the other for the projects I'm working on. The lists remind me that I won't forget anything. They also help me pay more attention to the shorter list.
Give up something
Managing time sometimes means giving up doing something you like. When you're ready to start a new task, think carefully. Is it really worth spending your time? Could someone else do it instead?
As a saying goes, "Work smarter, not harder." If you want to make full use of your time, make a plan and stick to it.
