I'll always remember the first time I tried ballet(芭蕾). My mother was a dancer and I wanted to be like her, but after making many mistakes during my first class, I felt like I wanted to give up right away. Because it was only my first day, I told my mom I couldn't wait to dance again.

Several weeks passed and my dancing didn't get any better. Then my dance teacher told us that we were going to perform in a show. I was afraid of falling on my face in front of hundreds of people and made my mom sad.

I practiced hard for the show, but I still didn't get the hang of it. Finally, I went to my mom to tell her how I felt. She just laughed and told me she would tea ch me all she knew about ballet. My mom quickly found out how bad at ballet I was, but she still taught me with the greatest patience, love and understanding. When I jumped and fell, she was there to catch me. When I lost my balance, she held me up. By the time the show arrived, I was as prepared as I could be.

The music began and my heart started to beat quickly. Breathing calmly, I began moving to the music without missing a step. When the music stopped, I ran off the stage and laughed with excitement.

My mom found me and gave me a huge hug, telling me how proud she was. I looked my mom in the eye and told her that there was no way this could have happened without her. Through this, I knew one important fact: My mom will always be there to catch me if I fall.

There are many reasons to enjoy drinking tea. However, you should let the hot tea cool down a little before you drink it. Why?A new study in the International Journal of Cancer gives the answer.

"Many people enjoy drinking tea, coffee or other hot drinks. However, according to our report, drinking very hot tea can increase the risk (风险) of esophageal cancer (患食道癌), so you'd better wait until hot drinks cool down before drinking," the lead writer of the study, Dr. Farhad Islami of the American Cancer Society, said.

For the study Islami and his team followed more than 50,000 people aged between 40 and 75 years old. They found 317 of those people had esophageal cancer. The National Cancer Institute reported that about 17,290 Americans had esophageal cancer in a year and that only about 19% of sick people survived. However, five years later, they died. 

The scientists found that drinking 700ml drinks (about three cups) every day or more at a higher temperature (温度)(60℃or hotter) would have a 90% higher risk of having esophageal cancer, compared (比较) with people drinking the same quantity at a temperature below 60℃.

This is not the first report showing a person drinking very hot drinks has the risk of cancer. In 2020, the World Health Organization showed a report. It found that drinking very hot drinks of any kind could increase the risk of cancer.

Many children use the Internet to get useful knowledge(知识) and information, and to relax in their free time. But some of them are not using it in a good way. Here are some rules to make sure you are safe and have fun on the Internet.

Make rules for Internet use with your parents. For example, when you can go online, for how long and what activities you can go online.

Don't give your password(密码) to anyone else, and never leak out the following information — your real name, home address, age, phone number or other personal information. Check with your parents before giving out a credit card(信用卡) number. Never send a photo of yourself to someone in email unless your parents say it's OK.

Check with your parents before going into a chat room. Different chat rooms have different rules and attract(吸引) different kinds of people. You and your parents must make sure it's a right place for you. Never agree to meet someone you met on the Internet without your parent's permission(允许). Never meet anyone you met online alone.

Always remember that people online may not be who they say they are. Treat(对待) everyone online as strangers. If something you see or read online makes you uncomfortable, leave it at once. Tell it your parents or your teachers right away. Treat other people as you like to be treated. Never use bad language.

Remember — not everything on the Internet is true. It's important for us to know how to use the Internet safely.

④If you are very shy and don't know how to make friends, just sell yourself to smile at others and start talking to others with warm greetings. You are sure to have more friends than you used to do.

⑤It you are a sluggish person who always does things slowly, you'd better make a plan every day. When you finish something, draw a happy face. If not, draw a crying one. No one would like to see a crying face and you will have the desire to change it into a smiling one.

⑥All in all, don't get too worried about your shortcomings. No one is perfect. That's why many people are trying to change. Don't give yourself a hard time about it all. It's not easy to change the habits overnight. Remember "Rome is not built in a day". Keep working at it. One day you'll see that you can turn over a new leaf and be a new person.

 Three years ago, I started working at the University of Leeds and I was looking for things to do. I noticed that a community school was {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(提供) Chinese evening classes. I paid fora beginner class {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(没有) much thought. 

I had no plans to move to China. I just wanted to learn a new l{#blank#}3{#/blank#} , which is also a good chance for me to know more about Chinese culture and Chinese {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(传统习俗). I used to speak fluent English and Spanish. But I think there should be a huge difference between learning something new as a child and learning as an adult. 

I had Chinese lessons {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(严肃). There was only one lesson a week and each lasted 90 m{#blank#}6{#/blank#} . Mr. Kong, the teacher, was energetic. For each class, he would teach us what seemed   like hundreds of new words. After {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(数个) months, I got used to this. Through weekly classes, my mind would reorder and make sense of the chaos. 

 There are more than 6, 000 international students. It was not difficult to find Chinese students who want to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(练习) English in exchange for Chinese. My new Chinese friends helped me go over everything I had learned in class. 

 Now I'd like to describe Chinese grammar as an easier one than that of English or Spanish. I am ready to overcome any difficulty and become fluent in Chinese. 

Have you ever been on a roller coaster? If you have, you must have screamed when the roller coaster was running at the fastest speed. What an exciting way to have fun!

People have enjoyed the excitement of roller coasters for hundreds of years. Roller coaster rides began in Russia. Over 300 years ago, Russians made slides(滑梯) out of wood and ice for winter festivals. They just needed to keep watering wooden ramps(坡道) and the ramps would become huge and smooth ice slides. Then they carved(雕刻) ice seats to make sleds(雪橇) that could be used on slides. In the end, they climbed up a set of stairs at the back of the slides. This is the prototype(雏形) of roller coasters.

Gradually, people wanted to enjoy sliding all year round. In 1817, a company in Paris began to develop a facility(设备) that could lock(固定) cars on the track. The first roller coaster officially came out.

The Switchback Railway was built at Coney Island, New York, in 1884. To ride it, people had to climb a tower. At the top of the tower, they would get into a small train which took them down a 200-meter slope(斜坡). At the bottom, people got out and the driver took the train back up to the top. It wasn't much of an exciting ride because its top speed was only 10 kilometers an hour.

Today, roller coasters come in all shapes and sizes. One of the fastest is the Top Thrill Dragster in Cedar Point, Ohio. It can "reach speeds of 190 kilometers per hour, But it may not be the fastest after a while because there will always be faster and more exciting roller coasters coming out.
