National (国家的) parks give a safe home to plants and animals. They help keep the air and water clean. They also give us the best trips. Today, there are nearly 7,000 national parks around the world. A famous magazine showed us 12 of the most beautiful ones in the world. They will surprise you with their amazing natural wonders and

colourful plants and animals. 

The Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. It is famous for its size and depth. It is 446 kilometres long, up to 29 kilometres wide and 1. 83 kilometres deep. Every year, about 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon National Park of US. When taking a trip in the south of the park, visitors can see the park's full views. In the north of the park, visitors can enjoy beautiful wild flowers. 

If you love animals, you'll like the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The "Big Five" live there. They are the African lion, African elephant, African leopard, black rhinocero and African buffalo. The name "Big Five" comes from the five animals that are the hardest to catch. Now people most want to see them in the wild. If you visit the park, you should never miss the migration( 迁徙)of over1. 5 million wildebeests( 角马) every year. This is the most famous site of the park. 

Marshall was a promising young artist. He painted with great feeling. His paintings were all characterized by a strong love and sympathy for people. His high school art teacher felt he had a special talent. 

Marshall's father didn't want him to be a painter, however. Mr. Donaldson wanted his son to be a stockbroker(股票经纪人). He wanted Marshall to continue the dynasty started by his great-great grandfather in 1820. The family business, Donaldson and Donaldson Inc. , was now a large, successful investment firm. 

Mr. Donaldson felt Marshall was much too individualistic. "Listen, " he told his son, "I had no say in choosing my career. I just did what my dad told me. "

"But you are good at business, " Marshall replied. "I'm not. I'm sure I would just cause trouble for you and problems for the company. " Marshall felt there was no way he could ever fill his father's shoes. And, although he was no stranger to high society, he didn't feel comfortable among the wealthy. He preferred the ordinary, working-class people of the city. His paintings told of their struggles and their hopes. 

Sometimes after school Marshall would hang around outside a factory gate. He would draw the workers as they came out at the end of their shift. Marshall wondered how they could keep doing that hard, boring work year after year. Then he realized most of them would be doing something different if they could. But their great obstacle in life was lack of education. 

When Marshall got home, he would take out his paintings. The paintings expressed his sympathy and respect for those hard-working people. 

Well, Marshall never did enter the family business. This angered his father. But as Marshall got older, his career as an artist began to take off. He became quite famous, and people paid large amounts for his "plain people" paintings. 

In time, this success won Marshall's dad over. Mr. Donaldson could see his son was born to paint. Marshall was glad his father finally came around. And happily, the two began to work together after all. Twice each year they held a benefit art show. 

Marshall donated a number of his paintings to be sold at each show. The persuasive Mr. Donaldson got his wealthy friends and clients(客户) to attend—and to spend. The money from the art sales was used to help factory workers improve their education.

Losing (失去) one or two hours of sleep every night can make us tired or get ill. "If you don't get enough sleep at night, you may sleep in class. If you sleep, you don't learn anything," said Mary, a teacher from a middle school.

How much sleep do you need? For 12 to 15-year-old students, you need 8.5 to 9 hours a day. The best time to go to bed is 10:00-10:30 at night.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 on April the 23rd. His father was an important man in the town, so Shakespeare had a good childhood. Shakespeare probably went to school but not university. He got married when he was 18 to Anne Hathaway and the couple had 3 children.

Shakespeare wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets. He began working in his hometown of Stratford, but by 1592, he began writing in London. He became rich enough to buy a house in the capital and another in Stratford. He wrote sad stories called tragedies (悲剧) like Romeo and Juliet, funny stories called comedies, romantic stories and stories about history, such as Julius Caesar.

Shakespeare died on his birthday in 1616, almost 400 years ago. But why are his works still popular today? His works looked into common human themes (主题) . They are a part of human nature today as they were all those years ago and in modern soap operas and Hollywood films.

We feel Shakespeare's influence (影响) on the English language today. We talk about "fair play", meaning honest behavior, and this phrase was first used by Shakespeare. And it was Shakespeare who came up with the expression of "disappear into thin air", which we still use it today when we lose something. Besides, Shakespeare's works have been translated into many other languages in the world.

I am going to have a party tomorrow night. I tell my mother that she needn't do 1 for me. My friend Jane would like to help me, 2 she can't. Because she has to look after her sister. So I will do everything by myself. I try to make 3 party a nice one.
