A research shows that people waste about 1.3 billion tons of food every year in the world. In China, 50 million tons of food is wasted every year. Therefore, in June 2020, people were w{#blank#}3{#/blank#} by many scientists that the world would face the worst food shortage in 50 years. 

 Our government have been aware of the serious problem and decided to take action. Recently, activities a{#blank#}4{#/blank#} food waste have been further encouraged. In August, President Xi Jinping called on people to eat safe food and stop wasting it.

The owners of most large restaurants began to control the number of dishes for their customers. In some places, the owners ask customers to take the "N-1 mode". That is to say, a group of 10 people should only order enough for nine people at first. M{#blank#}5{#/blank#} food is only brought to the table if they really need it.

At the same time, there is a nationwide activity online, called "Clear Your Plate". Users are encouraged to share photos or videos of empty plates after f{#blank#}6{#/blank#} their meals.
