The March Fair is the most important festival for the Bai people living in Dali, Yunnan. It starts from the 15th day of the 3rd lunar month and lasts about 7 days. During the festival, people in and around Dali come together for trade. What's more, they race horses, dance to and sing traditional songs. 

Torch Festival of Yi People

In Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, Yi people celebrate the Torch(火把)Festival. It usually takes place from the 24th to the 26th day of the 6th lunar month every year. As part of the festival, every family needs to light a torch. The idea is that these torches will drive away bad luck. In the center of town, there is always a bonfire(篝火), People of all ages sing and dance around it. 

Water Festival of Dai People

The Water Festival is the New Year for the Dai people living in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. It lasts 3 days in April. During the festival, Dai people wear their festival suits to dance and throw water at each other (they believe it could bring happiness and good luck). The wetter you get, the luckier you will be.

Feeling sad or upset? Don't turn to a cheerful comedy. A sad movie may be just what you need.

A team of scientists at Ohio State University, US, has found that sad movies can make people happier. They published their study in a magazine called Communication Research. Scientists asked 361 college students to watch a sad movie called Atonement. The movie tells the story of two lovers who are separated and die at the end during World War II. Before and after the movie, the students answered questions testing how happy they were with their lives. They also answered questions from the scientists before, after and three times during the movie to measure different emotions, including sadness.

Results showed that overall, people felt better after watching the movie. Scientists believe this is because the movie made them think about their own lives and relationships. Their lives, compared to those of the unlucky lovers on the screen, were full of hope. "I want to live my life to the fullest, and this movie has made me think a lot." One student wrote.

Silvia Knobloch Westerwick, the leader of the study, explained that negative moods make people more thoughtful. "Positive emotions are generally a signal that everything is fine, you don't have to worry, you don't have to think about issues in your life," she said, "but negative emotions, like sadness, make you think more critically about your situation. So seeing a sad movie may make you sad, but that will cause you to think more about your own close relationships and appreciate them more."

The Chongyang Festival is also called the Double Ninth Festival. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} During the festival，Chongyang cake and chrysanthemum(菊花) wine are the traditional food. Climbing mountains and admiring beautiful chrysanthemums are interesting events. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It has two layers(层) with nuts and jujubes(枣) between them. Since cake in Chinese is pronounced gao meaning "high" ，people consider climbing a high mountain to be the same as eating the cake. They also hope that they can make progress in the following days after eating the cake. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Drinking chrysanthemum wine is a necessary part of the festival. Chrysanthemums have the function(功能) of an antitoxin(抗毒素) and can drive the evil(邪恶) away. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

It is said that by climbing a high mountain，diseases can be prevented. Many well­known poems were created to describe the scene and feeling of mountain climbing. Now，families，relatives or good friends gather to climb mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and share happiness of the holiday with each other. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
