What are some of the difficulties of being blind? Two hundred years ago, a little boy was born in France. He was Louis Braille, a happy and lovely baby.

Sadly, when he was three, something bad happened. While playing in his father's shop, Louis hurt his eyes on a sharp thing. Although he got the best care at that time, he was still completely blind and could not see all the lovely colours and beautiful things around him.

Louis was a kind boy. As he grew older, he wanted to help other blind people read. However, it was really hard for him. The first way he tried was to poke (戳) holes in paper and read by touching raised (凸起的) letters with his fingers. But it was too slow to read the letters and few blind people could do it well. After that, he tried many other ways.

One day, Louis heard about someone using dots to represent (代表) sounds. He immediately found its advantages and he spent three years improving upon this idea. Finally, he made a special alphabet and blind people could feel it with their fingers. Each letter was made with a number of dots and people could feel them by their fingers.

The alphabet that Louis made is called 'Braille'. Today many blind people use 'Braille' to help them to read. This is how the Braille Alphabet looks:

You may meet many people in your life. But Mom and Dad are two of the most important people in your life. Over your lifetime, they may influence(影响) you more than anyone else. Mom and Dad need to care for their kids every day. Most parents will do this as long as they live. There are many ways to stay close and to build a strong relationship(关系) with your parents.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Little things might mean(意味着) a lot to your mom or dad. You can give your parents a happy day with a card or a joke. And if you try not to fight with your brothers or sisters, your parents will be so happy. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}You don't have to be the best, but when you do your best, you make your parents proud(骄傲). It makes them happy to see how you are turning into a good kid. Why? Because it lets them know they are doing a good job. 

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Your parents are busy with their work. They often feel very tired. But after they get home, they have to do lots of housework. If you can help to do some of the housework, they will feel very happy. Also you can learn to look after yourself. 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} When you meet problems, tell your parents. They may give you better advice(建议). If you do something good, you should also tell your parents. They will feel proud of you. If you always share your feelings, you will have a better understanding with each other. 

Protect yourself on hazy days(雾霾天)

How much do you know about haze? Haze can also be called"smog". It's a kind of air pollution caused mainly by cars and factories. 

 Smog does great harm to your health. It can make you cough and cause skin (皮肤) and eye problems. Then what can you do to prevent the harm in the situation? Here is some advice you can follow. 

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Outdoor activities make you breathe deeply. As a result, you'll take in more particles which are bad for your lungs(肺). 

 {#blank#}2{#/blank#} If you have to go out, you'd better wear gloves, long coats and trousers, which can protect your skin. Most importantly, you must wear a mask. Paper and cotton masks cannot help you in the haze weather. Some special masks can be of great help. 

Keep the indoor air clean. Most people prefer to keep the doors and windows closed on a hazy day. However, that's wrong. You can open the window slightly twice a day— at 10 am and 3 pm. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} And a wet cloth near the window can also help absorb (吸 收) the particles. 

Have healthy eating habits. Scientists discover that vitamin A, C and E can greatly help protect your eyes, nose and lungs. So don't eat food with too much fat. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Besides, try to make meals by yourself.
