Nineteen-year-old Zara Rutherford set the world record Thursday as {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (年轻的) woman to fly alone around the world. Rutherford has travelled in small planes with her pilot parents since she was six. At the age of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (十四), she gained her pilot's license. Then she started flying by {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (她自己).

She began her trip around the world on {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (八月) 18th. It covered 51,000 kilometers over 52 countries and five continents. On Thursday, Rutherford {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (降落，着陆) her small airplane back in western Belgium. The flight was supposed to take three months, but bad {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (天气) and visa delays kept her grounded and extended the trip by about two months. She met many {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (困难) on the way, but she dealt with them {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (成功).

On her website, Rutherford wrote, "Boys learn through toys, street names, history classes and movies that they can be scientists, astronauts, CEOs or presidents." She added, "Usually girls {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (鼓励) to be beautiful, kind, helpful and sweet. With my actions, I want to show women that they can be bold and brave {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (实现) their dreams."

My name is Gina. I am from the UK. Now I study （学习） in a middle school in Beijing. Monday is very busy for me. I have Chinese at 8: 00 a.m. Chinese is my favorite subject. I think it is fun. My Chinese teacher, Mr. Li, always makes his class interesting. All the students like him very much. At 9: 00, I have math. I don't like math because it's very difficult. I have English at 10: 00. I think it is very useful and it's very easy for me. And at 12: 00, I have lunch at school. In the afternoon, I have two classes. At 2: 00, I have science. It is difficult but interesting. After that, I have music. It's relaxing. I like my music teacher, Miss White. She is very young and beautiful. She plays the piano （弹钢琴） well. At about 4:00, I leave （离开） school with my friends Lucy and Wendy. We go to different clubs （不同的俱乐部）. I'm in a basketball club. Basketball is my favorite sport. Lucy likes swimming （游泳） so she is in a swimming club. Wendy likes drawing so she is in an art club. Monday is busy but it is very interesting. I like it very much.

On 18th November.1908, three men went up in a balloon (气球).They started early in London. The headman was Augusta Gaudron, and the other two men were Tannar and Maitland. They had a big balloon and they were ready for a long way.

Soon they heard the sea. They were carrying the usual rope, and it was hanging down from the basket of the balloon. At the end of the rope they had tied a metal box. This could hold water, or it could be empty. So they were able to change its weight. It was for use over the sea. They were also carrying some bags of sand.

After the sun rose, the balloon went higher. It went up to 3,000 metres, and the air was very cold. The water in the balloon became ice. Snow fell past the men's basket, and they could see more snow on the ground. The men tried to throw out some more sand, but it was hard. They tried to break the icy sand with their knives, but it was not easy. The work was slow and they were still falling, so they had to drop some whole bags of sand. One of them fell on an icy lake and made a black hole in the ice.

At last they pulled the box into the basket. It was still snowing, so they climbed to get away from the snow. They rose to 5,100 metres! Everything became icy. They were so cold that they decided to land. They came down in Poland heavily but safely. They had travelled 1,797kilometres from London!

Usually I wouldn't cross the park at this time of night. But walking around the park would take more time, and it was raining so hard that I couldn't even see clearly what was right before me. So I entered the park. And that was the first stupid thing I did tonight. 

Soon after I walked into the park, I saw a man under a tree up ahead. My heart fell. The stories I'd heard about the park were all coming into my head at this moment. Anyone with a clear mind would just turn back. But me? No. I did another stupid thing: I decided to hurry past him. 

Just when I was passing the man, he raised his head and gave me the strangest smile ever. I got scared and started running. "Hey!"the man shouted from behind. "Wait! "He was running after me! 

I ran like crazy. I had hoped the trees would keep some rain off. And they did. But they also madethe park look even darker. I couldn't see what was ahead of me. Then, I ran into something. It was the man! 

"Don't kill me!"I cried. 

"What? I was trying to give back your bag! You dropped it."The man gave me my bag. 

Now, I felt saying that to the man was the stupidest thing I did tonight. 

Roy is a 12-year-old boy from California, US. He weighs 147 pounds (67kg). But six months ago, he weighed more than 202 pounds (91kg). How did he lose all that weight in only half a year?

"One day, I was surprised to find that I weighed about 200 pounds," Roy says. "I thought I had to do something. " Roy is from a boxing family — his father and two elder brothers are professional boxers. So he decided to start boxing. He began with easy exercise, like sit-ups and push-ups. Then Roy started jogging. "No kids like running," he says. "I don't want to do it, either, but I have no choice but to keep on. "

Months later, Roy joined a boxing club in his city. He is always the first kid at the club to begin exercising, and the last to leave with sweat on his face. Every day he boxes for about three hours. "Roy works very hard," says his  coach, Hector Lopez. "It's surprising to see him lose the pounds so quickly. I've never seen anything like this in my 20 years of coaching. "

Roy is very happy with his weight now. There is a family photo in his room from 18 months ago. "Each time I look at the photo, I laugh at myself. I was so big back then. " Roy says. "I look 100 times thinner and 1,000 times stronger now. "

 Brenda Zhao slowly walked to the center of the stage, in front of hundreds of guests. Dressing {#blank#}1{#/blank#}( she) in a kind of traditional Chinese. clothes called banfu. she completed her coming- of- age celebration. For her, the event on Saturday was the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( special) in her school life, as she celebrated the big day with her family and friends in a traditional Chinese Han- style ceremony (仪式)."I really like being a part of the Chinese culture. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} this is my first time wearing hanfu, it has always been part of our event," the 18- year- old told China Daily {#blank#}4{#/blank#}( happy).

 In Brenda's opinion, it's {#blank#}5{#/blank#} nice idea to wear hanfu for big days like graduation and becoming an adult. " Hanfu is something that not everyone knows {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( good), so we set up the hanfu club to spread our culture. If more and more people join the club, they {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( fall) in love with it," she said.

As a Chinese American, Brenda has been working as a student volunteer {#blank#}8{#/blank#} three years, promoting(促进) Chinese art and culture in New York City. She is also one of the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}( student) who have won the President's Community Service Award this year.

"I really love working with the community and with my volunteers," she said." They also encoura ge me {#blank#}10{#/blank#}( keep) going."
