Spring Spring starts when the day and night are of the same length. The weather gets warmer and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their babies in spring.
Summer Summer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 June. Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruit grows on trees and plants. Young animals grow bigger and stronger.
Autumn Autumn starts when the day and night are of the same length again. During autumn, the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Some animals collect food before winter comes.

Listening is one of the basic skills. Good communication always starts with good listening. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Ask Good Questions
When someone comes to you with a problem, it is natural for you to give them advice. However, instead of giving advice, asking good questions is more important. This can show that you are interested in what people are telling you.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}
Avoid too much Nodding
Nodding while listening to people shows that you are listening carefully. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you nod too much, it may make people feel uncomfortable as they may think you are just trying to agree with everything.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}
You also need to be patient while people are speaking. It is rude to speak while others are still talking. Even if you want the speaker to explain something for you, please wait until they finish their part.
Follow Up
To show your further concern about people, you can go beyond just listening to them. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} It is an act that shows your care and support.
As a student, you may be required to write reviews.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Writer Luisa Plaja offers her suggestions on how to write a good review of a book.
Start with a couple of sentences describing what the book is about. As a common rule, try to avoid writing in detail(细节) about anything that happens from about the middle of the book. If the book is part of a series(系列), it can be useful to talk about this.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings about the story and the way it was told. You could try answering a couple of the following questions:
Who was your favourite role, and why?
What was your favourite part of the book, and why?
Did the book make you laugh or cry?
Did the story keep you turning the pages?
Talk about anything you disliked about the book.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example: Did you wish the ending wouldn't be magic because you found it surprising? Did you find it difficult to care about a main character, and did you know why? Did the story focus on a topic you aren't interested in?
{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Summarise (总结) some of your thoughts on the book by suggesting the type of readers you'd introduce the book to. For example: younger readers, older readers, fans of relationship drama, mystery stories or comedy.
A. Gather together your review. B. Talk about why you think it didn't work for you. C. Do you like writing reviews? D. Discuss what you especially liked about the book. E. Can you complete a review easily? |
