The phrase "southern spuds"becomes popular,thanks to Harbin,a city in Northeastern China that has taken the Internet by storm.

Over 3 million tourists poured into Harbin during the three-day New Year holiday.And many of them came from southern China where snow was nowhere to be found.Harbin locals gave these visitors a cute nickname "nanfang xiaotudou"or"southern spuds".It is because southern people are usually shorter and they look like small potatoes when wearing thick jackets and hats.To Harbin people,this name is not to make fun of southerners,but to create a sense of warmth with humor (幽默).

Harbin tried everything to meet tourists' needs,especially those from the south.Cooks carefully cut the local frozen pear into small pieces.Symphony(交响乐)concerts find their way into shopping malls.A drone(无人机)lifts a man-made moon for tourists to take photos.Harbin really went all out to make them happy.

However,even though they did all these to please the southern tourists,this nickname

"southern spuds"sparked a debate(辩论)on the Internet.While Harbin locals use the name to show warmth and goodwill,some sightseers feel that calling them"small potatoes"is making fun of their height (身高).

Even though people from the Northeast are sincere and warm,we have to admit (承认)that there is regional stereotype(地区刻板印象)in some parts of China.Nowadays,people travel all the time.Therefore,it's important to make the world a more welcoming place.After all,everyone likes kindness and dislikes discrimination(歧视),whether (不论)it's on purpose or not.

It's Sunday. Tony wants to have a picnic. At 8:30 am, Tony goes to a forest park near a river with his sisters Jane and Alice by bike.

After an hour, they get there. Tony sees some students there. Some boys have a garbage bag（垃圾袋）in their hands. A boy, Bill, comes to Tony and asks him to clean the park with them. There is some garbage. Tony is a friendly boy and he says "yes" soon.

At 10:30 am, they finish cleaning the park. Then Tony has a nice picnic with his sisters. They have milk, potato salad and hamburgers. After the picnic, Jane and Alice draw pictures and take photos. They want to fly a kite, too, but they don't have one. Later on, Alice wants to swim in the river, but Tony stops her. He says it is dangerous（危险的）to do it. Ten minutes later, it rains hard. There is much water in the river.

At about 1:00 pm, the rain stops and Tony and his sisters go home happily.

When a computer runs a group of programs, it can get very hot. Cooling the computer can cost a lot, so some scientists want to know one thing: What would happen if they use the heat from the computer?

Large Internet companies such as Google and Microsoft have thousands of computers. As people use these computers to look through information, they produce lots of heat so they need huge cooling systems. 

These systems send the heat into the air. A Company in Holland(荷兰) thought paying to make the computers work and then paying again to cool them were a waste of energy So the company developed a special machine—the e-Radiator. Boaz Leupe, head of the company, says that the e-Radiator works as a heating system and saves money. He says that the energy is used twice--once to heat the home and once to cool the computer. He also says that users don't have to pay to cool their computers. Five homeowners in Holland are testing the heating system in their homes. "We pay for using the computer, so, in that way, homeowners get heat for free, " Boaz says. Jan Visser is one of the homeowners. If you use the computer more, the e-Radiator produces more heat, he says. "It cannot provide enough heat if you don't use your computer often. " But he is ready to try it. It's a great help for his family. 

The company says e-Radiators produce heat of up to 55℃. It says the system could save its users about $440 a year. That's really wonderful, right?
