A gift in a wrong place brings unexpected happiness. 

Since 1cameto my new neighborhood，1 have been glad to meet a few neighbors. They seem to be quite1 people. For Christmas, I thought I would do2 nice for each of the neighbors that I know. I sat down and counted. 

There were nine neighbors, and I also knew which houses they lived in.

However, I decided to3 one more person to my list, the lady I met every morning walking to work as I drove down the street. She always smiled at me,4 I had no idea which house she lived in.

My gift idea was to make small5 baskets and leave them on each of my neighbors' front porches (门廊) on the night of Christmas Eve. I kept the last one for the friendly lady, since I was still not sure where she lived — 6 the house where I met her each morning. Finally, I decided to put it there. My neighbors really enjoyed the baskets and a couple even came by to7 me.

This morning 8 my way to work, I put my mail in the mailbox and noticed a Thank You card. I opened it and read the 9 which really made me surprised.

The card said, "Thank you for those lovely apples and strawberries you left on the porch of Tod. He 10 on January 19th, but he never stopped11 how nice it was that someone remembered him in his time of illness. He really enjoyed it." I was very surprised. I didn't know who Tod was or that 12 had been seriously ill. I left that nice lady's basket on Tod's porch by accident. I believe that Tod never expected to have that basket. I feel13 that the nice lady did not get a basket from me this Christmas, but I believe that if she knew what happened, she would 14 me.

I feel lucky to have helped Tod be more cheerful in his last days. This just makes me further believe that sometimes 15 in life are beautiful.

My good friend Laura is my cousin. She is one year older than me. She is more hard-working and she usually gets {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (good) grades than me in the tests. Both of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (we) like reading and swimming. Though we have{#blank#}3{#/blank#} same hobby, we have some differences. For example, she is more outgoing and enjoys {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(tell) jokes. What's more, she has a great talent for singing. She wants to be a famous singer. So she decides {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (practice) singing every day. She often sings in {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (show) and I have watched her sing many times. We talk {#blank#}7{#/blank#}everything together and always share our happiness and sadness（悲伤）with each other. My favorite saying is, "A true friend reaches for your hand {#blank#}8{#/blank#}touches your heart. " Laura is a friend like this. 

Laura also studies photography（摄影）in her free time, so she is{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(real) busy. She has taken a lot of wonderful photos. Last year, she{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(win) first prize in the city photo competition. I am lucky that I have such a good friend. 

Cristina Zenato, a world-famous shark expert and diver(潜水员), was born in Italy and grew up in Africa until the age of 15. In 1994, she went on a vacation to Grand Bahama and fell in love with both diving and the island. So she decided to make Bahama her home and make diving her life.

Cristina learned to feed sharks when she was a child. In 1996, she became a shark feeder trainer. She created a course that educated divers about the beauty of sharks and the need to protect them and their environment. Through the "shark feeder course", she has created more shark lovers.

Cristina is talented in communicating with sharks. With just a touch on a shark's head and face, she can lead it into a state of sleep for 15 minutes. Cristina's special talent has been used to study shark behavior by scientists. It also helps to save sharks. Cristina still remembers clearly the first time she managed to take out a huge hook(吊钩) from a tiger shark's mouth. Up to now, she has taken out hundreds of hooks and fishing lines from shark mouths and skin without hurting them. Her work has saved many sharks from possible death.

Cristina has received many prizes and honors for her great work in shark research and protection. She also acted in several films including "Saving the Sharks" by the BBC. Until today, she continues to give speeches around the world.

Judie's class were studying Chinese culture. One day her teacher went into the classroom with some kites. He told them that kites {#blank#}1{#/blank#} invented in China more than two thousand years ago. At the end of the class, he said," Chinese people make kites that mean something important to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . I hope each of you to, make a kite that means something important to you. Then you will have a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}understanding of kites than before." 

 Judie decided to ask her dad for {#blank#}4{#/blank#} because it was her first time to make a kite." What can you think of when you see a kite?" her dad asked. Judie {#blank#}5{#/blank#}for moment and answered," Butterflies."

 Judie's dad agreed that it would be a good {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to make a butterfly kite. They made a cross with some wood sticks. Then Judie {#blank#}7{#/blank#} outterfly on a piece of white paper. Next, they stuck the paper on the cross. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they tied a long tail to the bottom.

 The next morning, they took the kite to the park and tested it." Wow!" Judie cried proudly. " How {#blank#}9{#/blank#} it flies!"

" Judie, can you tell me {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you like butterflies?" asked her dad.

 Judie replied," To me, butterflies mean beauty and freedom!"

One day during the Spring Festival, I was taking a walk near my house when suddenly there came a voice," Excuse me, sir." I turned around and saw an old beggar(乞丐)."Did you1 some money, about fifty yuan, around here? I lost it just now." He looked at me and2 my reply. "Sorry, I didn't, " I answered. He went away saying in a low voice, "Where is it?3 should I do now? I really need the money."

I could sense that he was4 . Then I got an idea.1 took out a fifty yuan note(纸币)and dropped it on the ground. "Here! Here is the money!" I picked it up and 5 it to him. Then I walked towards my house.

A week later, on a snowy afternoon, I heard someone knocking at the door. It was the old beggar with a heavy bag on his shoulder, He put down the bag 6 and said, "Thank you so much. I knew you gave me your own 7 that day, for the money I lost was in change(零钱). But my wife was8 , and I really needed it to buy some medicine for her. So I didn't return it you. He added, "I have nothing to pay for your9 . Here's some rice I got from door to door for your children. As the saying goes, ‘A child who is fed by many families grows stronger ,' I will be pleased10 you like it." Hearing his words, my wife and I were so moved that tears ran down our faces.

Jing Baoshan，69，lives a quiet life in Pinglu County， "Baoshan" 1 "protecting the mountains"，something he seems to have been doing in his life. 

In 1970，the then 17-year-old 2 the army and became a soldier. After 17 years，Jing3 to his I hometown in Pinglu and worked as a forest ranger （护林员）. He worked there for 25 years until he retired in 2012.4 his 25 years of service，he worked alone most of the time and met a number of5 situations. Fighting forest fires was one of them. 

In 2000，he was patrolling （巡逻） when he found one fire. He called for6 from the closest village. As more firemen made their way，Jing and five farmers were7 the fire when the wind suddenly changed direction. Four of the farmers8 . Jing and the surviving farmer were9 hurt. He felt very sad for those farmers' deaths and that was one of the reasons why he decided to devote （奉献） the rest of his life to the forest. 

On October 1^st ， 2019，Jing was invited to the ceremony10 the 70th anniversary （周年纪念）of the founding of the People' s Republic of China. He said he would11 forget it for the rest of his life. 

Now，Jing continues to12 the forest as a volunteer at least once every two weeks. Smart GPS plays a very important role in keeping the rangers13 today. Jing believes the14 show the country's development. More importantly，he said that people are now coming to15 the importance of a well﹣ protected environment.
