As the New Year of 2024 comes, some people love the tradition of making resolutions. So, how can you keep the New Year flag standing? Come to our school hall at 3:00 this Friday afternoon and listen to a talk by Ms. Ann Smith!

If your New Year's plan is to exercise five days each week, a plan like "I'll exercise on weekdays" would be not clear enough. A plan like "I'll exercise at school on weekdays during my lunch break"would be better.

★Get a little help from your friends.

Tell a few friends about your resolutions. Then if you want to give up at some point, they will be the ones to make you hold on.

★Make it fun.

If it's not fun to exercise or study, you won't keep at it easily. But if you get fun from your exercise or study, you'll keep longer. If you can only drink your favorite juice during study hours or watch your favorite TV show after finishing your homework, you'll look forward to studying. It is not easy for us students to keep a New Year plan and this talk will surely give us some help. There are only 100 seats for the talk and we will have the "first come, first served" rule. Book early through our hotline: 390-4567 and bring your student card to get into the hall.

Liu Yaxuan is totally a homebody. Every weekend, this14-year-old student from Tsinghua High School watches popular TV dramas like The Journey of Flower(《花千骨》) and plays with her mobile phone. She hates playing outdoor sports. "It's too tiring," she said.

She is not alone. In recent years, more and more Chinese teenagers are becoming homebodies. A survey of kids aged 2 to 14 showed about 60 percent of them spend less than one hour doing outdoor activities every day. 

 This problem may have to do with heavy academic pressure(学业压力). Hu Huilan, 12, from Shenzhen Nanshan Language School, is busy with much homework and many after- school classes on weekends. "I don't want to get behind, " she said. 

 Even if this isn't a problem, kids still prefer indoor life. Wang Di, 12, from Anhui No. 50 Middle School, often reads Harry Potter, listens to music and surfs the Internet at home. "I can do so many things I like at home rather than hanging out in smoggy weather, " she said. 

 The situation for foreign students is quite different. Tina Smith, 15, from a high school in Toronto Canada, says her peers(同龄人) don't like staying indoors at all. " They spend their free time outdoors even if it just means going to the park or reading a book under the tree. Nice weather, little homework and rich outdoor activities enable us to do that, " she said. 

As students, what do you usually do in your life?{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Luckily, here is some advice for you to make it easy.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Most middle school students have two or three hours of homework every day. It is a good idea to make some kinds of homework plans(计划), especially(尤其) if you want to do sports or other activities after school.

A bedroom, study or any quiet place is good for you to do your homework. But don't study on your comfortable bed, or you might fall asleep there.

It's not good for students to study for long, so have some rest and you can learn better.

Sometimes you study so hard, but some subjects are still too difficult. You can ask teachers and classmates for help.

We do eye exercises. We wear sunglasses (太阳镜). We do lots of things to protect our eyes. But we usually forget another important part of our body—the ears. 

Ears help us hear the world {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Once this happens, it's hard to get your hearing back. So how can we protect our ear ■■■take a look together. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Dry your ears with a towel (毛巾) after swimming or taking a bath. If you feel water in your ear, shake your head a little bit. This can help you get the water out of your ear. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}During the winter, protect your ears with a hat or a scarf.

Keep your ears clean

Usually, our ears clean themselves. The earwax (耳屎) builds up, dries out, and then comes out of the ear along with some dirt (污垢).

Don't clean your ears with anything sharp (尖锐的), or it can make the earwax go too deep into your ears and hurt them. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

How to use headphones (耳机)

Don't listen to loud music on your headphones for a long time. Follow the 60:60 rule: listen to music at 60 percent of your headphones' maximum volume (最大音量) for no more than 60 minutes a day.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. They do a better job of stopping outside noise so you can. listen at a lower volume.

 This is the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(important) thing, and there are so many ways to do it. If you walk {#blank#}4{#/blank#} same way to school every day, try a way not taken. When your friends ask you to go to the football match, don't say no even if you don't know anything about it. Being curious {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(help) us to learn new things. The {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(many) things we know about, the more possibilities(可能性) we have for connecting information in new ways. 

 Take risks(风险)

 Many of us are afraid {#blank#}7{#/blank#} making mistakes. This habit may come from our parents or others who look down upon us. So stop listening to these people. Write a song, even if you are not sure how to do it. Learn a new sport. At that time, Thomas Edison {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (develop) light bulb from 1979 to 1980. They didn' t work at first, but each one gave him the information he needed and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (final) help him make out the useful ones. Creative people take risks, but you won't take risks {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you are afraid of making mistakes.
