If the eyes are the windows of the heart, then the body is the mirror of our feelings. If we are feeling great, we may give our body signals. If we look at someone else, we can often tell how he or she is feeling through his or her body signals. So reading body language signals is a great tool in daily communication.
If you don't think that learning how to read and use body language is important here are some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone (语气) and the speed of their voice, while 55% of the information we receive is from their body language.
These non-verbal (非语言的) signals will help you a lot, but you still need to focus on what the speaker is saying. If you focus too much on the body language signals, both you and the speaker may feel uncomfortable.
It is useful to be able to read people's body language, and it is useful to learn how to send the right signals and avoid the wrong signals, too. Body language may be given several meanings,which depend on the person and the situation.Be sure of it when you are trying to read a body language signal.
My good memory is often seen as something that we are thirsty for, while a bad memory as something that can hardly be changed. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} ,. Here are some tips(贴士) for you.
◆ Take an interest
We all remember the things we are interested in, and always forget the ones that bore us. This explains the reason why school boys remember football results easily but struggle(挣扎)with dates from their history lessons! Develop an active interest in what you want to remember. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
◆ Repeat things in chunks(块).
Repeating things in chunks is the best way to remember things in a short time, for example, remembering a long number for a few seconds. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}
The following numbers would be impossible for most of us to remember: 1492178919318483. But divide them into "groups" or "chunks", and it becomes much easier: 1492 1789 1931 8483.
◆ {#blank#}4{#/blank#} .
It's another good way to make up a story which includes all the things you want to remember. In experiments, people were asked to remember up to 120 words using this way. When they were tested later, they could remember about 90% of them. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
A. Make up a story. B. Take physical exercise. C. The test result was really amazing! D. Grouping numbers may help you to remember them. E. As we know, too much pressure is very bad for the memory. F. In fact, there is a lot that you can do to improve your memory. G. One way to make yourself more interested is to ask questions — the more, the better! |
Scientists have found fossils of animals with tails since hundreds of millions of years ago. Back then, early fish used their tails as fins(鳍)to swim through oceans, and run away from enemies. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Scientists believe that dinosaurs used their tails to balance their heavy heads and bodies while they walked. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
Similarly, kangaroos use their tails for balance. But their tail also works as their third powerful leg, it can help push them forward. In addition, a monkey's tail can also act like a hand, helping it to hold onto tree branches.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}But their roles are quite different. Most tailed insects use their tails to lay eggs. Birds use their tails to balance while sitting on trees. They also use tails to control directions. For many birds, a spread and raised tail is part of the lover-finding show. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Male ones will spread their colorful tails to attract female ones.
Besides, animal that live in groups, like wolves, use different tail position to show their rank. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Scientists believe those tails disappeared around 20 million years ago. Once they started walking upright, we lost them because we had no use for them anymore.
A. Although humans don't have long tails like monkeys, we did have tails! B. As the fish walked onto the land, their tails started to change too. C. This helped them run fast enough to catch and kill other animals. D. Many insects also have tails. E. Take peacocks for example. |
