When I was finishing my tour in Iraq, my parents provided a vacation as a Christmas gift. "London,"I said. They seemed a bit surprised: I grew up there. Why didn't I choose a foreign place? I told them I wanted to go somewhere cold and wet after seven weeks in the desert. At that time this made sense(讲得通), but 10 years later, I've realised I wanted to return for a different reason: South Bank.

 When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London, on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family was comfortable living in this city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue-sky days, I felt lost and out of place, until I found something.

South Bank is the centre of British skateboarding. I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language, and my favourite: Safe. Safe meant "cool". It meant"hello". It meant"don't worry about it". Once, when trying a certain skill, I fell onto the stones, and Toby came over, helping me up, "Safe, man. Safe." A few minutes later, when I landed the skill, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting,"Safe! Safe! Safe!"And that's the important thing —landing skills, being a good skater.

When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I'd given it up.

When I returned to London years later, I found myself walking slowly down to South Bank for hours. I've traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Then a teenager, in a baggy white T-shirt, sat next to me. He seemed not to notice me. But soon I caught a few of his glances. "I was a local here 20 years ago," I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head, "Safe, man. Safe."

"Yeah,"I said. "Safe."

An animal house lets a bad parrot go away for he likes saying bad words. Now the parrot finds a friend in Amazon's voice app at his new home.

Rocco is a gray parrot. His owner finds that he can use the voice app to play his favorite music,tell jokes and even order food.

Thanks to the app, it helps stop the clever bird from doing shopping. If not, he may really buy some strawberries, ice cream and even a cup.

Mary has the parrot now. She says she takes in the parrot after the animal house lets him out because he often says bad words.

Eric, Rocco's first owner, teaches him bad words. Now he really loves his new home. He talks with the app about 40 times a day.

And he can make different sounds. He can make the sound of a phone, a car, a clock, a door bell, and even the sound of opening or closing the door.

The 76-year-old farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson. Every morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading Treasure Island. One day the grandson 1 ，"Grandpa! I try to read the book just like you but I don't understand it，and I forget what I understand as soon as I close the book. What 2 does reading books do to us？"

The old man said，"What I want is not a bucket of water but a basket of water. You're just not trying 9 enough，" and he went out of the door to watch the boy try again. At this point，the boy knew it was 10 ，but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he11 ，the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into the river and ran hard，but when he reached his grandfather，the basket was again empty. 12 tired out. He said，"See，Grandpa，it's useless！" 

"So you think it is useless？" the old man said，"Look at the basket. " 

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time 13 that the basket was different. It had been 14 from a dirty old coal basket into a clean one，inside and out. 

"You see，that's what happens when you read the book. You might not understand or 15 everything through reading，but when you read it，you will be changed，inside and out. "

"I never think of the future. It comes soon enough." {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Don't get yourself worried about the future as the plans you make new may not work in the future. What matters most is living today Do your best right now and do not worry about tomorrow. 

"{#blank#}4{#/blank#}" Imagination is very important. When you imagine something differently, you may begin to share it with others. People begin to see the world that you imagine. Together you can create new ideas and help each other. Take time to imagine something, and share your ideas with others. 

"Only those who try the absurd (荒诞的事物) can achieve the impossible." Sometimes it seems silly that you are taking risks. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} When you go beyond what others think is reasonable, an amazing thing starts to happen. 

Monday! Oh, I don't like Monday because I'll have to go back to school again after the weekend. On weekdays, I have to get up at 6: 3O in the morning and go to bed at 9 o'clock in the evening. 

Tuesday is not so bad. I usually play tennis with my friends after school. On Wednesday evening I don't go out. I stay at home and do my homework. I like Thursday because I have a P. E. class on Thursday. I always go out on Friday night. I often go to my friends' house. Sometimes I go to the cinema. 

I love the weekend. On Saturday I stay in bed until（直到）lunch time，and I sometimes go to the shops in the afternoon. In the evening, I go for a walk with my parents in a park after dinner. Then on Sunday I go to my friends' house or they come to mine. I usually visit my grandmother for an hour in the afternoon. Then the weekend is over and it's Monday. And I feel bad again!
