School started again, and soon the ink(墨水)in Tom's spelling book was found. Tom said he hadn't split the ink, but that made it look as if he were lying. Becky almost said Alfred Temple had done it, but she kept quiet. She thought that Tom would tell the teacher about her tearing(撕)his book, so she didn't save him. Mr Dobbins beat him and then Tom went back to his seat。

After an hour Mr Dobbins unlocked his desk and took out his book, Tom looked over at Becky. She looked like a hunted and helpless rabbit. The next moment the master faced the children. There was a long silence, then he spoke, "Who tore this book?"

There wasn't a sound. The teacher searched their faces.

"Benjamin Rogers, did you do it?"

Benjamin said no.

"Joseph Harper, did you?"

Joseph also said no. Dobbins looked at the rows of boys, thought for a moment, then turned to the girls.

"Amy Lawrence?"

A shake of the head.

"Gracie Miller?"

The same sign.

Becky was next. Tom was shaking from head to foot.

"Rebecca Thatcher?"—(Tom looked at her face; it was white with terror)— "did you tear?—no, look at my face—did you tear this book?"

Tom jumped to his feet and shouted, "I did it!"

The children stared(盯着) in surprise at his foolish act.

And when he stepped forward for his punishment, he saw the surprise, the thanks, and the love that came from Becky's eyes.This was enough for one hundred beatings. And he didn't even mind staying for two hours after school, because he knew that Becky was waiting for him outside.

Tom went to bed that night planning some actions on Alfred Temple, for Becky had told him everything. And he fell asleep with Becky's last words to him in his ear, "Tom, you are so great!"

Over the past 6 years, Zhang Chaofan has given away 1.35 million yuan and raised 5.2 million yuan from the public to help more than 400 people with health problems—including teachers with cancer (癌症) and disabled children in poor families—learn traditional Chinese culture.

Zhang, 29, was born without a left arm in Changchun, Jilin, but her hard work to become stronger has encouraged many people. She was chosen along with 67 other honorees (领奖人) to receive the Eighth National Ethical Role Model award (第八届全国道德模范提名奖) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on November 5th, 2021.

In 2015, Zhang set up a handwriting and painting school in Changchun. When she found that some parents were unable to pay for their children's education, she made the lessons free and began providing 300, 000yuan every year to help them.

In early 2020, her school was made to suspend all courses because of COVID-19 (新冠肺炎) but it didn't stop her from helping the poor families. She raised more than 8.9 millionyuan and gave them away to Hubei hospitals.

"Women in the new times should have the courage to create value and also have a sense of social duty," she said. "It is my great honor to be chosen as a model. This will become a driving force for me to move ahead and keep helping the poor and the disabled."

I'm a bit of an airplane fan. For the past few years, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (have) many model planes on my desk at work. You can imagine my joy when I had the chance to experience the first flight ofC919 jet yesterday. Luckily, I got one just before the tickets {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (sell) out. 

Before boarding, I found that almost every one of the 160 {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (passenger) walked around the plane to celebrate this historic moment. They got more excited {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ever before and some began to take selfies (自拍) . {#blank#}5{#/blank#} happy they were! 

The {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (excite) continued on board as the C919 took off. A special breakfast {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (serve): Shanghai noodles, some White Rabbit milk {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a special dessert with a "World's First C919" logo on it. It was a pretty short flight, about 2. 5 hours from Shanghai to Chengdu. Soon we landed at our destination, and we cheered {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (loud). Almost everyone seemed overjoyed to have taken part in such a proud moment for China. 

Now I‘m looking forward to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (see) what new planes COMAC (中国商飞公司) has planned for the future. I can't wait to see them take on Airbus and Boeing!

In the following scene, the girls talk about what they can buy with the very little money they have. They feel hopeful about the future even though their dreams may not come true.

Charlotte's Web is a book popular with readers of all ages.  It is a story about two 1 : a little pig called Wilbur and a spider (蜘蛛) with the name of Charlotte. 

One day, the pig Wilbur is sent to a farmer.  At first, he has no 2 there.  Other animals 3 him.  He is unhappy and sad.  But his 4 turns around when he meets the spider Charlotte.  Later, Charlotte becomes a great friend to him. 

When Christmas comes, there is 5 news for Wilbur.  He is going to be killed (杀).  Wilbur thinks there is no 6 for him, but Charlotte thinks of a 7 plan to help him.  She uses her web to write 8 of praise(赞美) about Wilbur.  People in this town never 9 messages in a spider's web.  So they think that the messages must come from God! Wilbur becomes 10 enough to go to a big game.  He doesn't 11 the game, but the famous web makes sure that he will never be killed. 

The 12 of the story is the spider Charlotte herself.  Helping Wilbur makes her very 13.  And after giving birth to her babies, she dies (死).  14 Wilbur thinks he will have no friends again, three young and small baby 15 come and become his new friend.
