Two simple words "thank you" have made a big difference to thousands of firemen in New York City.

Savannah is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}girl from Texas. "I was trying to think {#blank#}2{#/blank#}I could help them out," she says. After {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(hear) about sacrifices (牺牲) made by firemen, she was moved by the risks they face. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Savannah made 200thank-you cards for them. "I want to show how much I care about them."

"I told the firemen thank you," Savannah recalls. "They're always there to help us."

Savannah {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (decide) to keep making cards. For the next seven {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (month), she woke up early to paint and colour and cut. In that time, she sent 1,600 cards {#blank#}7{#/blank#}bite-sized candies while meeting these heroes. Soon, fire stations started thanking the girl.

Once too shy to talk to others at school, it is now easy for {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (she) to communicate with firemen and school students. And she can even give a speech in public. She is quite {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(difference) from what she used to be. "She's saying how thankful she is for them!" Savannah's mum, Debbie, says, "Savannah sees that stepping out and doing something can {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(true) make a difference."

It was the summer before my third grade. Our girls' softball(垒球) team was facing real pitchers(投球手)1 the first time. Before that, we could just hit the ball on the tee (球座). When the coach started pitching, hitting became 2 for me. I missed every single pitch. From the side, I heard my teammate Emily laughing at 3 . My face turned red. At that moment, I was starting to 4 playing softball.

The next afternoon, when Mum said it was time to play the game, I told her I was 5 . She allowed me to rest for a while. So I went to my room and 6 myself in bed. This was difficult for me because I was OK and just 7 to keep away from softball.

Soon Mum came in and said, "Time to go!" She didn't even ask if I felt 8 . I imagined Emily laughing at me, and 9 I really did feel sick to my stomach. I began crying loudly. Still, Mum pulled my team T-shirt over my head. She said, "You have to 10 for the rest of the season, and only after that can we talk about 11 you'll go on next year." She added that practice was what I needed, not 12 . She promised to practise with me.

I got two hits that afternoon, and Emily didn't make a 13 . Every week after that, I practised at home 14 I got to be one of the best hitters on the team.

That 15 taught me being afraid is part of life, and I can do whatever is expected of me if I keep working and practising.

James had always disliked Tony Hicks ever since Tony moved into his neighborhood. From the start，James sensed a strong rivalry（较量）forming between the two. Whenever James was doing something in the neighborhood，the true battle（战斗） began after a snowstorm. 

James woke up on a January morning. When he looked out the window，he saw white snow had covered the ground. So he rushed downstairs and pushed his snow blower out to clean the snow. Who did he see？It was Tony Hicks. He was busy cleaning the snow，too. 

James was angry. Doesn't he know this is my work？I've blown these houses for the past four years!Suddenly，it was no longer a matter of snow blowing for the purpose of helping his neighbors. For James，it was to beat Tony Hicks. 

The boys locked eyes for several seconds and then a competition began. The boys worked like crazy，completing each house as soon as possible. Finally，when they arrived at the end of a dead end

After a few seconds，James spoke，"We really did a fast work. "And for the first time， "We sure did △" All of a sudden，the boys laughed loudly. Then the boys set off together，clearing the walkways as friends.

Day 1— Arriving

After flying for hours. we arrived in Auckland. Ms. Field welcomed us at the airport. That afternoon she gave us a talk on New Zealand.

Day 2—A visit to the Auckland Museum

After breakfast, we went to the Auckland Museum by bus. At the museum, we learned about Maori culture(文化). Ms. Field was so kind that she taught us some Maori greetings. Those greeting s were so hard to pronounce(发音) and remember.

Day 3— Meeting new friends

We went to Ms. Field's school. The students were very interested in Chinese culture. We made friends with each other later.

Day 4~ Day 7— Wonderful South Island

We traveled from Christchurch to Queenstown. It was very exciting. We sheared (剪羊毛) the sheep on a farm, enjoyed the delicious food and visited the place where The Lord of the Rings was shot(拍摄).

It was a wonderful trip. How I wish to visit New Zealand again!

Chen Beier, a TV host, was going to make a programme about Atule'er, the small village in Sichuan that sits on a cliff(悬崖). People could only get to the top by climbing a 2, 556-step metal ladder(金属爬梯). 

China has reached an important goal(目标). It eradicated extreme poverty(消除绝对贫困). And life has greatly changed in Atule'er too. Years ago, there was no schools for kids to get an education. Many people died because of poor medical condition. There are no more sad facts like these in Atule'er now. Government built schools and hospitals. People can go to school and see a doctor as easily as those in town. 

Now Chen was on her way to Atule'er but it wasn't easy to complete the trip. When Chen was halfway up the ladder, she felt so tired that she could hardly go any further. But the woman set her teeth and continued her climb. Thanks to Chen, people can easily see how life in China's countryside has improved. 

China has changed a lot. Many people outside China, however, couldn't believe it. Now, Chen has shown us what can be done about that: Don't just tell them, show them.
