I would like to talk about a useful tool. It has helped us  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  our work. Most of you have used it before. It's a small yellow piece of paper and it is  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}   all over the world. It's the Post-it® note. A Post-it® note is a piece of paper with special glue on the back. You can stick them  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  anything and the note will stay in place. The notes can be removed (撕下) {#blank#}4{#/blank#}   from any surface. Students like to use them  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  traditional notebooks in their daily lives.

A young man worked very hard at his lessons. He was too busy to have a rest. At last, he became ill, so he couldn't go to sleep. Every night, when he went to bed, he closed his eyes and tried to sleep. But he always stayed awake and couldn't fall asleep.

After some days, he decided to see a doctor. "I just can't go to sleep at night. What should I do? Could you please help me?"

"I have a suggestion (建议)" said the doctor. "Try counting numbers (数数). By the time you reach one thousand, you'll be asleep. I'm sure of it."

The next day the man returned to the doctor's office. "Well," said the doctor, "how are you today? Did you try my suggestion?"

The man still looked tired. "Yes," he said, "I tried counting one, two, three—up to one thousand. But when I reached five hundred and sixty-nine, I began to feel sleepy. I had to get up and drink some tea so that I could go on counting up to one thousand. But then I still couldn't fall asleep."

① China's population is growing larger and larger, but Mr Li finds there are fewer and fewer people in his home town. Born in the countryside near Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, Mr Li now works at a university in Nanjing. When he was a kid, there were about2, 000 resident (常驻的) villagers.    ▲  And most of them are old people and children. That's because young people leave their home town to work in the cities. In fact, moving to cities is a common phenomenon (现象) in China. There are many reasons why people would leave the countryside and move to a city. Let's learn three of them. 

② More jobs Where there are more people, there are more jobs. In another word, there are fewer jobs in the countryside. This is the main reason why so many people leave the countryside and towns to live in big cities. 

③ Better education (教育) For parents, it's very important for their kids to get well- educated. Usually good primary schools, middle schools and high schools are in big cities. Well, some parents have to leave their home town to work in cities, but they can't pay for their kids' education in cities. As a result, these kids become left- behind (留守的) ones. 

④ The way of life The life in big cities is much more interesting and colourful than that in the countryside. Many move to a big city to experience many kinds of things, such as food, activities and movies. 

⑤ Well, except for the reasons above, what else do you think can also cause the phenomenon?

 According to the United Nations, later this year, India's population will surpass China's. With 1, 428 billion people, it will be the most populous country in the world. 

 What is driving India's population growth? Well, one of the biggest reasons is its young people. Nearly half of the country's population is under the age of 25. Because of this, scientists believe that India's population will reach the top in 2065. They say that India has a lot to learn from China. Giving better education is actually one of the best ways to control population. 

 Becoming the world's most populous country means an important turning point in India's development. Have you ever heard the term"demographic dividend(人口红利)"? It means that the more working people a country has, the more likely its economy(经济) is to grow. In 2021, the working-age population of India stood at 900 million. That was a surprising number. However, the U. S. working-age population is only 207 million. 

 Nearly 40 years ago, many young, clever Indians started moving to the West. They were looking for better chances for their skills. At that time, many scientists were worried about this. Many of them have become CEOs of top companies in the world. They can help develop their home country. 

     ▲      . There are, for example, not as many new non-farming jobs as people expected. Millions of young Indians feel hopeless about the future of their jobs. They choose to continue their studies rather than look for jobs. India's unemployment rate (失业率) climbed to 8. 11% this past April. 

 India still has a long way to go before it starts to take full advantage of its population size. 

Guide dogs have long acted as the "eyes" of  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(失明的) people. They can't get around w{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the help of a well-trained guide dog. Training guide dogs is a difficult {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(任务) , but thanks to The Seeing Eye, we're able to get the most out of the four-legged friends.

The Seeing Eye is the world's o{#blank#}4{#/blank#} guide dog school. They began to raise and train lots of guide dogs in 1929.

When Seeing Eye dogs are seven or eight weeks, they are sent to the homes of volunteer — Dog Raiser(抚养者). They teach the dogs {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(基本的) manners and commands(要求), and take them outside on streets and public transport. 

When the dogs are 13 to 19 months old, the raisers {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(返还) them to The Seeing Eye. Each dog is assigned (分配) to a trainer with w{#blank#}7{#/blank#}they will train for four months.

Once the four-month training {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(结束) , the trainer will train the dogs with their new owners(主人) for 18 to 25 days.  

"Training a guide dog requires lots of work and {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(耐心), but it's well worth the 

{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(精力) ," says Emily Foster, who works for The Seeing Eye. "I feel happy every time I see a working guide dog in the street."
