There's nothing better than having a sweet sleep after a full day of tiring work. Like people, animals need to rest after working hard, too. Some animals sleep in water while others dig holes under the ground. Some even sleep high in trees or under the leaves. Although they sleep in different ways, all of them find ways to have a good rest. 

Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. For example, fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea when they take breaks. Sea otters（海獭）sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrotfish（鹦嘴鱼）blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble（气泡）will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from danger while they sleep. 

Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks（花栗鼠）sleep curled up（蜷缩）in a ball. Their beds are made of leaves and grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks and wake up to eat the food. Then they go back to sleep for another two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs（青蛙）dig underground holes during the hot and dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months. 

High above the ground, monkeys find places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects（昆虫）even sleep under the leaves that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it rests well and is ready for work.

Daniel Olin was 11 years old when his parents moved to Canada. He liked his new school and made friends there，but then things at home started to change. His mum and dad began to argue and the arguments got worse and worse until one day，Daniel's mum left. With his father working long hours，to run away. And that's what he did. 

Very early one terribly cold morning when the snow was deep on the ground，he packed a bag with some clothes，some chocolate and a map of Canada and set off to a forest. He ran and ran until he could hardly breathe. His feet were heavy with the snow but he still walked on through deep snow, not even watching where he was going.

Then，disaster struck. A rock hidden by the deep snow caught his feet and Daniel fell to the ground. He had broken the bone. He was very cold and was starting to feel tired，but he knew that if he fell asleep in the snow, he would certainly die from the cold.

A tree shook ahead. From within the branches（树枝），a pair of yellow eyes watched Daniel. The puma had been following him. A puma is a large wild cat with claws that could tear（撕开） Daniel into pieces. But instead of moving in for the kill，arms and legs. Daniel was too frightened to move，but soon the warmth of the animal reached Daniel and he began to feel better. From time to time（口鼻） against Daniel and rocked his head gently. Clearly，the puma knew that Daniel must not fall asleep. This animal should have been a real danger to Daniel and yet the boy began to feel safe. 

They remained like that for several hours until Daniel and the puma heard voices. The rescue （援救） team had found them. 

One of the world's most dangerous sports is mountain climbing, and one of the most popular places for this is the Himalayas. The Himalayas are in the southwestern part of China. Of all the mountains. Qomolangma rises the highest and it's the most famous. It is 8,848.86 meters high. and so is very dangerous to climb. Thick clouds cover the top and snow can fall very hard. Even more serious difficulties include freezing weather conditions and heavy storms. It is also very hard to take in air as you get near the top. 

The first people to reach the top were Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary on May 29.1953. The first Chinese team did so in 1960, while the first woman to succeed was Junko Tabei from Japan in 1975. 

Why do so many climbers risk their lives? One of the main reasons is that people want to challenge themselves in the face of difficulties. The spirit of these climbers shows us that we should never give up trying to achieve our dreams. It also shows that humans can sometimes be stronger than the forces of nature.

The small town lies in the southeast of France. It is a beautiful place. And it's famous for its chestnuts（栗子）. Lots of chestnuts are produced there every year. There is even a festival about chestnuts. People from Privas have a strong sense of belonging. On weekends，young people who live a busy life in nearby cities often come back to Privas to get together with their family. 

The quiet environment and comfortable lifestyle（生活方式）made me fall in love with Privas. The school where I taught was a great place to learn about French culture. I learned some special French customs there. 

People greet each other by kissing on the cheek（脸颊）. The number of kisses depends on where you are in France. On my first night in Privas，I stayed with a host family. They told me that in most places in France，people give two. In the north of France，they give four kisses. And in Privas，the custom is to give three. This made me sometimes wonder which cheek to kiss first. Since I had long hair，when a person was kissing me，some of my hair would end up in his or her mouth. That was really funny and awkward（令人尴尬的）. But people there were pleased that I was getting used to the local culture. 

Six months of staying there made me feel like part of the town. It was an unforgettable experience and I can't wait to return there some day.
