According to media reports on Wednesday, Zhang Zening, a woman from Nanjing City, East China's Jiangsu Province, has made more than 50 sets of Hanfu, or traditional Chinese costume (服装).

Zhang majored in materials science and engineering when she was in college, and she gave up her job after falling in love with Hanfu. It has been 10 years since Zhang made Hanfu by herself because those of her favorite styles were not for sale. She taught herself painting and costume design, and visited a dozen Chinese cities to explore museums, as well as to draw inspiration from murals (壁画) and literature, before making over 50 different Hanfu from past dynasties.

Zhang said the design of Hanfu was inspired by the murals of past dynasties. "What I did is not only to restore (使复原) a piece of clothing, but more to feel the culture Hanfu possesses, as well as the inspiration and significance (意义) of the mural, which made me very touched and glad," she said.

In July this year, a group of international students from Canada visited Zhang, hoping to work together to restore Hanfu based on murals that have been lost overseas. Zhang is excited about the project, saying, "Even if the national treasures cannot return to the country, restoring Hanfu based on them allows these lost treasures to be seen by more people. It's also a contribution from us young people."

Most parents don't know what their teenage children are talking about when they are having a chat with their friends. This is also true when teenagers are using the language of texting to send messages. Words like 18r are easy to understand, but what about"POS"? I asked some parents what it means and only 28% got it right! It means that a parent is near and that they are watching what their child is doing.

Parents worry a lot and like to know what is happening in their children's lives at all times. This means they try to control as much of their children's lives as possible. However, they have no control over the language that their children use, so it is a useful way for children to keep parts of their life secret.

Parents also complain that they never have serious conversations with their teenage children. Teenagers are always busy phoning or texting their friends- even when parents are trying to talk to them. And there are times when teenagers aren't busy, but they just don't feel like having a serious chat with mum or dad!

One way to start real conversations is to make sure that the whole family eats together at mealtimes and that everyone has a chance to talk. Teenagers are trying to find out who they are. They aren't adults yet, but they are learning how to act like big people.

This means that it is a good idea to speak to teenagers like they are adults and it helps to listen to their ideas and opinions carefully. When parents talk to their teenagers, some good ad vice is" Don't sound like your own parents!". In addition, parents who try to use the language of teenagers often sound very silly. And that's because most times when an adult tries to use" teen talk", the words are probably already unfashionable!

After a game like football, the players might get an X- ray in the hospital if they hurt their legs or arms. A dentist can use X- rays to look at teeth. And airport workers use an X- ray machine to check objects before a plane leaves. Nowadays, X- ray technology is widely used in medicine and other fields. 

X- rays were first discovered by a German scientist, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923) . He found them quite by accident in 1895. One day, he discovered that an unknown kind of radiation (放射线) could hardly pass through hard objects like bones. Later, Röntgen took a photo of his wife's hand. It clearly showed her ring and her bones. That was the first X- ray photo in the world. 

Why is there an "X" in the word X- ray? It's because Röntgen couldn't explain exactly how it worked. He just knew that X- rays were new and useful for science. In fact, X- rays soon became an important tool in medicine. With the help of X- rays, doctors could see inside the human body for the first time without surgery (外科手术) . 

Röntgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize in physics in 1901 for his discovery. When he was asked what he was thinking at the moment of discovery, he replied, "I didn't think, I researched. " Röntgen gave away his Nobel Prize money to his university. And he never took out any patents (专利权) on X- rays, to make sure that the world could freely make use of his discovery. 

When a computer runs a group of programs, it can get very hot. Cooling the computer can cost a lot, so some scientists want to know one thing: What would happen if they use the heat from the computer?

Large Internet companies such as Google and Microsoft have thousands of computers. As people use these computers to look through information, they produce lots of heat so they need huge cooling systems. 

These systems send the heat into the air. A Company in Holland(荷兰) thought paying to make the computers work and then paying again to cool them were a waste of energy So the company developed a special machine—the e-Radiator. Boaz Leupe, head of the company, says that the e-Radiator works as a heating system and saves money. He says that the energy is used twice--once to heat the home and once to cool the computer. He also says that users don't have to pay to cool their computers. Five homeowners in Holland are testing the heating system in their homes. "We pay for using the computer, so, in that way, homeowners get heat for free, " Boaz says. Jan Visser is one of the homeowners. If you use the computer more, the e-Radiator produces more heat, he says. "It cannot provide enough heat if you don't use your computer often. " But he is ready to try it. It's a great help for his family. 

The company says e-Radiators produce heat of up to 55℃. It says the system could save its users about $440 a year. That's really wonderful, right?

Oil paper umbrellas have a history of over 1000 years in China. Yuhang in Hangzhou i s known for making oil paper umbrellas for over 230 years. Umbrellas here take more than 70 steps to make. And it takes at least a week to make one. In 2007, this kind of umbrella was added to Zhejiang Province's Intangible Cultural Heritage List. 

Oil paper umbrellas used to be seen everywhere here. However, as steel-ribbed( 钢 骨的 )umbrellas appeared, the oil paper umbrellas became less used in daily life. Instead, they turned into decorative(装饰性的) artworks. 

To bring the art to life, some umbrella-making masters in Yuhang have improved oil paper umbrellas. As the traditional paper is easy to break, they use a thicker paper. So the umbrellas can be opened and closed 1, 000 times without breaking. And a lighter kind of bamboo is used to make ribs. So, the umbrellas weigh less. This kind of umbrellas has won the hearts of many young people.
