One {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(rain) night I was driving along a lonely highway {#blank#}2{#/blank#}I saw a man walking rapidly ahead of me along the side of the road.It was pouring rain and I slowed down to avoid splashing him as I went by.

    He misunderstood and thought I was offering a ride，and ran towards my car. He was very tall and had a full beard, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} scared me. I stepped on the gas pedal  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（leave）quickly and I saw the look of total despair in his eyes. Suddenly，all fear was  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(go) and I backed up and unlocked my car door，praying this was not the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(big) mistake in my life but somehow knowing it would be okay.

    The man's truck had got stuck {#blank#}7{#/blank#}the mud. He {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(walk) for miles.No one would pick  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}up and his wife was giving birth to their first child in the hospital. He had cried at the thought that he might not be there. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} fortunate), we arrived in the hospital before his son was born.

    This is a true story which happened in the States. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (happy) hammering dents(凹痕) into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp(果浆汁) as {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (punish). When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.

  Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to cut the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (wake) up from the operation and saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, “Daddy, I'm sorry about your truck,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} when are my fingers going to grow back?”

The father went home and committed suicide.

Think about this story the next time someone steps on your {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(foot) or you wish to take revenge(报复). Think first {#blank#}7{#/blank#} you lose your patience with someone you love. Trucks can be repaired, but {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(break) bones and hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(great) than revenge.

People make mistakes. We {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (allow) to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will impress us forever.

A Brief Introduction to Gandhi

Mohandas Gandhi (1869—-1948), an Indian national hero, was honored {#blank#}1{#/blank#}the father of the Indian nation. He has been respected and beloved by the Indians.

    He was born in India in 1869. Following the local custom, he got {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(marry) at the age of 13. In 1888 he sailed to England, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} he studied law for three years and became a lawyer. On his return to India, he was sent to South Africa to work on a law case.

    In South Africa he {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(surprise)to find that the problem of racial discrimination (种族歧视)was serious. There he formed an organization and started a magazine to fight {#blank#}5{#/blank#} equal rights.

    Gandhi returned to India in 1915,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} India was controlled by the British. He led the Indians to fight for an end to the British rule and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(depend)for his country. In the political movement many Indians including Gandhi were put in prison. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, the struggles never stopped. The British government had to give {#blank#}9{#/blank#}and India won its independence in 1947. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(fortunate)Gandhi was shot by an Indian who opposed his views and died on January 30th, 1948.

    Wallace's giant bee is the world's {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (large) bee, with a body the size of a human thumb and wings that can spread to about 2.5 inches. That may sound {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (frighten), but the bee isn't likely to hurt anyone. It uses its large jaws (嘴) to collect a sticky goo, called resin, from trees. The bee {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (make) its home in termite mounds (白蚁丘) found on trees, using the resin to protect its nest from the termites. Until recently, the bee had been seen by scientists only {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (two), once in 1868 and again in 1981.

    Recently, I feel upset for I have a strange neighbor. She lives in a house with {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (dust) curtains {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hang) before dirty windows. I don't know if it is because she has no friend {#blank#}3{#/blank#} she has developed the habit of setting down a series of facts she has gone through in her diary.

    She seldom goes outdoors.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, one day I happened {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (meet) her when she was walking the dog in the park at dusk. She looked tired and I wondered {#blank#}6{#/blank#}she was experiencing. She was much {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (concern) about my new novel. It was the first time in a year that I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (communicate) with her face to face. We didn't stop talking until the sky was{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (entire) dark. We had got to go home immediately because a thunder storm was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} its way!
